dog eating cow pies?

some reason my 9 month old walker pup loves eatin cow pies and it drives me nuts. i dont know if this is because she is lacking something in her food or what. is black gold food that bad she would rather eat cow crap instead of her food? she will eat some of her food but doesnt eat it all anymore. and her remains have quite a bit of hay in it. she has always ate them a lil bit here and there but now it seems like she is constantly out eating it and her dog food consumption is way down. if this isnt a medical issue and is just a nasty habbit she has how can i stop her? thanks

I don't know anything about the health of it, but I'd put the shock collar on her and see if I could break her.

cow shit has a huge appeal to dogs of every size and breed. I wouldn't worry over it much I don't think I've ever owned a dog that wasn't at least a little interested in cow shit. I usually have at least two green dogs in the pack. honestly i'd rather cow shit then many things they can find to eat and roll in. the only medical reasons she might be eating it is canines eat grass and roughage when they have worms or a upset stomach or just need a little variety in her diet. if all she wants to eat is cow pies then yes you may have a problem.

I have notice my dogs love calf crap but dont care much for the the cows crap if you are calving that could explain why she has started eating more of it...must be the milk they can smell in it...

i think you are on to something here!! we just had a calf a few weeks ago and shortly after that she started eating it more but she doesnt just eat every pile of shit she sees. she will sniff around the whole pasture until she finds one she likes so i think your right on the money!

calfs dont have as good of a digestive track till they mature and they also get better food then the older cows be it milk or grain so the dogs seem to know the difference between them and like them better.
