Re: walker feet problems
on some young dogs you can fix this, i have taken a stick and stood by the base of the tree and every time they try to tree jump just give them a little thump on the nose. But if your dog isnt a good tree dog some times this can make them not want to tree, like i say some dogs it will work on and some it wont. i have a little dog that climes trees and there is no stoping her. most of the lions i tree she will be up 10-30 ft right in there face. good luck

experience may slow her down some. it's doubtful though. this over active tree climbing behavior can be a real annoyance + dangerous. i think truthfully most packs have at least one confirmed tree climber. how old is she? if she is real young you maybe able to get lucky and break her from it. could try a caged coon on a pipe and once she gives up trying to climb praise her .
it seems like your main concern is tearing her pads though. for this i would just toughen them up. i don't think I've ever had a dog tear pads climbing trees. if so it was a single incident. the "tree's" we have here are probably more prone to damaging a hound then any I've seen anywhere else. I would guess it's soft pads. use gravel in her kennel or around her chain. keep it dry and try to help drain or neutralize the urine the best you can. and road her on a hard surface to help build her feet up. pad coats also help sometimes.

i know a guy who puts a 1 ft piece of chain on the dogs collar when he has a problem with them jumping on the tree. the chain will swing around and pop them and they learn to just sit and tree like they should. im not saying that its the answer for all dogs but ive seen it work already on a hunting buddy of mine dog
