took the hounds out tonight
I took my hounds out for a coon hunt I have a 10 year old finished walker and a 10 month old walker pup I'm starting, now I've been working with this pup for almost a month now and he is very good at tracking the dragline and tree the hell out of it when he finds it but when we do the real deal he jus plays around the tree he goes with my old dog I even herd him open up a time or two I jus don't understand why he won't tree with my old dog. If I tap on the tree and squall he will tree for a bit but that's it. What's up with that? I know he can burn a tree down jus not when its the real deal. Why is that?

Your pup is doing o.k. Forget the "dragline" and take him huinting with the old dog. With the drag there is more scent on the trail and especially the "tree". He probably can see it in the tree and is treeing by sight. Give him some time. He will be on his on development schedule, NOT YOURS.

One of the guys i hunt with said the same as above, there is to much scent left on the tree, and my pups were doing the same, but once i started nocking live coon out to them with the big dogs tied up and they seen it fight or tree again they started to figure it out. Just how it worked for me, hope it helps.
