Ever mounted one of your dogs?

I hunt on a guys place and hes a Taxidermist, one of the best in Ontario, hes won many awards and has a super nice collection ranging from lions to grizzly bears, hes only been asked to stuff a couple domestic animals, i saw a couple pics of a German Shepherd he did, it looked great to me, but like he told the owner, il never be able to make him look 100% like he used to, theres just no way... And as said, a cull maybe lol jjk, good dog well i just couldnt do that

Friend of mine Pat, & his friend Grady caught this boar about 3:00 am. dogs bayed & they went to them. Got about 30 yards from the bay & Pat cut OB(catchdog) loose. They went running in & as soon as Pat grabbed the hog, OB fell off. They tied the hog up & Pat checked on OB. He was dead, one shot in the neck, huge hole & a broken neck. OB had just enough adrenelen to hang on, Pat ended up mounting the boar & OB together. A fitting tribute to a good hunting buddy. This hunt took place about 25 years ago. OB used to be black but has faded with time.

Call me a wierdo but i actually think the mounded dog and hog is pretty freaking cool. Im not saying that its not wierd. but cool none the less. Also the dog does kinda look like its smiling, reminds me of the jack russel off of the movie "the mask".

After a hard day dealing with wound up kids teaching this made my day! Not long ago I told my wife I was going to do that with one of my dogs laughing about it at least I am not alone. Keep it up guys you make me realize I am not the only crazy hunting dog owner.

I had a pet goldfish that died. Taxidermist used the wrong form and just didn't quite capture the expression I remembered. Wish I had kept a photo of that goldfish.

I agree it is difficult to accurately portray an individual animal. Whether it be a deer, lion, coati, or pet. It is easier to mount a deer to look like a deer, but does it look like your deer? Does your Taxidermist take the time to sculpt each form to reflect the specific musculature and bone structure of the animal you harvested, or does he just order the right size form and mount it? There is so much information to be gleaned from photos of your animal if you know how to read reference and lack of forms are not an issue either. Carcass casting, death masks, custom eyes. and ability to alter what is available are all options for a Taxidermist that is not afraid of a challenge. Having a background in raising, showing, and judging sporting dogs helps tremendously in getting expression and proper anatomy. Expression is not all in the eyes, ear position, lips, whisker placement ect.... all portray what the animal is feeling, thinking, intending ect... If you think this is something you may be interested in make sure to do your research, find someone who specializes in making mounts look like the original, and find out in advance your responsibilities as the owner in bringing your animal to the taxidermist.
