he gets ran at least two miles a day and i tried that bitter stuff they sell and he likes it like candy i was thinkin hook up a eletric fence to it but i dunno
Re: dog chewin his kennel
id just keep him on a chain before he breaks all his teeth, and wrecks your kennel at the same time.if he chews through a good chain he deserves his freedom

Re: dog chewin his kennel
Two miles is nothing... try at least 6. 10 would be better, better yet is do it by time. A dog can cover 2 miles in just 10 mins and thats at an easy pace. Try running him for 30 mins to an hour.
Also a bigger run might help if you have the resorces and space for it... Electric fencing is an option as well as long as there is enough room to get around without acidently brushing the fence.

Re: dog chewin his kennel
you can get a cheap electric fence charger at tractor supply for like 20$.it would be easy to make his kennel taste HOT.

Ya I'll start making his runs around 10 miles and making it at a good pace. And I do have one of those fence chargers that I'm going to hook up.

exactly what i was going to suggest. IVe seen dogs that get hunted on coons 4 nights a week and still will destroy a kennel, try all day to gat off a chain, etc. Some hounds are just like thatmehounds wrote:you can get a cheap electric fence charger at tractor supply for like 20$.it would be easy to make his kennel taste HOT.

Re: dog chewin his kennel
Yea I was wandering how you could just hook the charger directly to the fence and get it to work. I used to have an electric fence all around our orchard and it was a charged wire held away from the main fence. The bear would be on the fence and hit the wire as he tried to climb over making the connection and grounding it with his body. It was a real pain in the ass to keep it from grounding out any green vegetation could ground it and when it was raining it got even worse. Dogs work much better and its fun running bears of with them to boot
So you will just have to string wire on insulaters all around the areas he tries to get out so that he will touch both the fence and wire. Or redo the whole kennel and string the chainlink on insulaters... Sounds like a pain in the ass.
Could also try a trashbreaker and watch from someplace that he can't see you then light him up as soon as he starts on the fence. If he is not to hard headed that may work.

Re: dog chewin his kennel
Why I was wonder is that To correct something I like to try to get in the dogs head, why is he doing it, what is the nature of the dog and what is he trying to accomplish. Dogs will be dogs but if we truly try to understand whats going on over there for the dog the problem sometimes can be easily corrected. We think like humans, if we could relate to the dogs more it is for easier to train and get what we want out of them. Maybe the dog just wants out, what does he do if you turn him lose around the house if that is possible. Maybe he just likes to chew or is teething if he is a young dog I like to keep a deer horn in with teething pups to chew on it save a lot of chewing where I don't want it. It may be the dog just needs shocking to prevent this action. When we correct a dog if people would look at the reason that they shock a dog, are they doing it to correct the dog or are they doing it out of there own frustration not liking what the dog is doing. Which you problem know already timing and consistency is what works to correct a problem. If people stop and think about what that are doing to correct a dog it usually gets done in a way that forwards the training and development to what we want out of a dog. This may seem off the wall but if you look at the people that always have good dogs and gets them trained easily they are probably doing this if they are aware of it or not. Just something to think about. Dewey
