Conditons where U Hunt?

Hello folks,

It is darn Hot and dry here across the South Eastern US. Might be the driest on record in some places.

It is so bad here in AR that Saturday night we had rigged a Cat pretty hot, The Hounds were down looking for it when the Cat came out into the road a couple of hundred yards ahead of us.

It took about 10 min. for the Hounds to work their way up the road to where the Cat had come out and looked at us. Once they arrived, all could flag and one opened as if it was a COLD COLD track. That was the one and only bark....this sure does not build a fire in a Hunters Belly!

How bout the conditions where you all Hunt....is it bad dry, too wet, or just right.

CJC we can hunt here right now but the country here looks as good as I have seen it in 20 yrs our creeks and springs are running like they should and we are getting great rains and have very good snow pack in the mountains. All the wildlife should do real well. Andy

one of the wettest springs i have seen here. people should be cutting hay weeks ago. next thing u know it will be to hot and everyone will want rain.

Its hot dry and windy. We've had 1/4" of rain since last June. Some dew in the mornings but it doesn't last long. We've also had trouble starting cats till well after sun up, After that you don't have much time to get it done. Beats laying in bed though!

Mr. Clay, here in East TX, it is hot and dry. My Dad cut his first cutting of hay in May and the grass is just sitting there waiting on a rain. I've been trying to hunt once or twice a week. We get up at 3am and try to turn loose by 4:30 or 5am. If we don't have one bayed by 9am, it's time to load up and go because it is usually about 90 degrees by then. We can trail and jump one much easier in the creek bottoms than we can up in these sand hills, but even a jumped hog doesn't equal a bay in these conditions. A good race usually turns in to a battle of attrition, and it seems like we only win about half of them this time of year. LOL It is amazing how much "dog power" we lose when the temperature gets over 90.

In Mexico is very hot and dry ,not rain in 8 month some days little dew ,is imposible move a bobcat track only lions, Im have 9 runnin dogs ,this year not caught many bobcat and only 2 lions , mabe next month gare rain and more cats. ...sorry may ingles

That's crazy how weather works. In Utah we have had the wettest spring in the history of record keeping. We still have a ton of snow in the mountains. All the cool weather and water has been a nice change.

Conditions are about as tough as they can get. I can take dry and still catch coons and an occasional cat. If it is wet, I can do about the same thing but when it is "bone dry" and wind blowing over 20 mph, it is impossible to catch a cat.
I have been catching a lot of coons and have been most impressed with the trailing ability of a couple of these females. It ain't been pretty but they have been getting it done. I am with Memo, it is just about as bad as it can get. This drought can go longer but it will not get any drier.

Here in North Texas along the Red River it is very dry. It has also been the most windy year I can remember. I'm still treeing a lot of coons but I am trying to stay out of the hogs because it is just too hot for the dogs if I don't get to them quickly.

Awful dry here in South Texas. If your eyes are good enough, you could see a rattlesnake crawling for a hundred yards because there is so little turf on the ground. Cat hunters talk about cats that hit a road and run down 'em and that's where they made their lose... well right now the whole country down here is like a bare road. It makes for awful hard trailing with the dogs. I bet if you are five minutes behind a cat that has crossed a road, a cat that just walked across, not marking bushes or leaving cat scat, the dogs will probably miss the trail. It helps to have a real cat minded dog right now to get one started... meaning a dog that when he is on the ground, all he is thinking about is cat. Then if you get him started you are still a long.... way from catching him.
But... it will change when the Good Lord sees fit and blesses our land again with rain. Until then we have to be patient, just like our dogs on a tough trail, just keep pecking along and stay on track and eventually things will turn around in our favor. Until then good luck and happy hunting.

Very Hot here in NC. Dry in most areas and when you can catch a shower on your hunting grounds it is nice. Been back hunting for two weeks, jumped 6 foxes, caught 1 and treed 1, the rest won the battle in the heat, they cross a road and dogs stop for water...Lost one b*tch that got to hot during a race for 20 minutes, a good one at that. I'm ready for a frost...lol

Warm n sunny if your a glass half full guy hell in overdrive if your a half empty guy and dry and hot if your a realist for me it depends on what I have to do that day! Lol we need some moisture bad it clouded up for a couple days even sprinkled once but its gone that fast guess mt or utah is the place to be this year. I've been wetting the dog food down so they can find it and choke it down least they stopped drooling a couple months back
