garmin 220 freezing or turning off

Yesterday we were hunting and after getting the hounds back and putting them in the box we drove a short distance and noticed the 220 had shut off. i asumed the batteries were dead so i loaded a new set in turned it on again and proceeded to the next area leaving it on . we stopped for a 30 min break and when we left we noticed the screen was frozen and nothing worked it wouldnt even turn off.

I took out the batteries for a second and then put them back in and it was fine. An hour later it froze again but it turned off when i pressed power.
Turned it back on and it was fine and later in the day it randomly shut off .

I turned it on again and and it stayed on for the 5hr trip home and it was fine.

is it a setting ? timer ? ive never updated it do i need to do this?

Happened to me 3 times in 18 months. Had to take the batteries out and reboot. DOn't know why it happens
