No, but I had a dobie who passed a year ago that treed several bears on her own from fishing camp and just running with the quad over the years. Treed pretty good too !

From talking to some people I worked with in the past. I gathered that in Mexico they use these dogs to hunt everything. Never been around them myself but those fellows were sure partial to them.

back when my great uncle started running lions. the dog that caught his first was a doberman. thats what got him started but he was to fast and was usually alone and was killed by a lion if i remember the story right.

I thought about using them myself. they r smart and powerful and 1 of the fastest besides the greyhound. if i could get 1 i would try them my self to see if they would be useful to me. I live in the mountains of virginia where they pipe sunshine in.

Blacktail, that sure was a gorgeous female!!! I have a purebred Male Dobby and I was never around one and never liked them, we got this male for my sister for Christmas and she didn't want it when it got there so I played with it and I tell ya, I don't like tall dogs, but these guys are built like race horses and amazing family dogs!!!

in high school i had a dobe & a pup she had from a black & tan setter. they ran & caught deer & wildcats. if i knew then what i know now, instead of wasting so much time chasing girls (i can't even remember some that i slept w/) i'd have a good line of hard silent medium-hot nosed dogs.

the doberman breed as a whole has been badly damaged over the last 20 odd years. they are more frail built (the show fancy says refined or elegant), more genetic disease & most have had the heart bred out. if i were looking for one i'd try to find a heavier built gyp from a line that works the hardest possible protection sports (KNPV or one of the newer ring sports).
a good alternative might be to get a good stag or coldblood grey gyp & breed to a good 1/4 bulldog cross (pointerXpit, american bulldogXcur or hound etc). the pups should have a descent hot nose (maybe medium if you're lucky), speed to burn & more than enough grit to get themselves killed.

A man I know swears by his airedale. They are big mean hunting machines. He says it helps put them up in tree a whole lot quicker when an airedale is hanging off its ass. I know you were askin on dobies sorry. Just a thought.

thanks dirty dan. I love them airdails, but I sure hate looking at them.lol. love the looks of the dobermans, more houndy lookin minus the ears. I'm definately tired of watching my lion dogs and my two bear dogs barkin a bear from ten feet away and then eventually coming back one by one until the bear is gone. My dogs have got the riggin down pat, they start the track great, the bear is usually jumped within the first hour and just when it sounds like it's caught I get dogs dropping out. In my dogs defense I have been running alot of older, large, fighting nasty bears that have been well trained by all the lion dogs around. I'm picking up two more bear dogs this week and our training season starts in two weeks so maybe my luck will turn around. if it don't I'm gona beef up with an airdale, dobie or something a bit meaner. anybody ever try catahoulas???? theyre a dime a dozen where I'm at.

ya airedales aren't very easy on the eyes and it's hard to keep them clean. I have some hog hunting friends that run catahoula dogs. Like you said they are a dime a dozen. Which means getting good stock is a must. They have a pretty high cull rate trying to find good ones. The ones they've kept they love. Personally I'm gonna try a leopard cur. Now called a leopard hound they are different from a catahoula leopard dog. They have houndy ears,nose and mouth. They are true tree dogs as where catahoulas are bay type dogs. Good rhodesian ridgebacks are tough to come by but make swell dogs also. Good luck

i think all german bred dogs would hunt like the jagd , dacsonhound, the dobie , german shepard, and dont know much about the rottie

yea, I heard all about these gritty plotts.lol spent some money and a couple. now I've got a bunch of blueticks and 2or three plotts barking at these bears from 20 feet away. these bears down here are just different. I know it sounds stupid, but I have had guys come out that catch a shit load of bears in nmexico, lasals, idaho, etc. one thing in common. they all got their ass handed to them down here. I probably need to head elsewhere for a while and get my dogs feeling confident again and then come back. I did manage to tree 5 bears here this spring, but I ran and bayed three times that many. thanks for the feedback, keep it comin.

Dobermans are probably the worlds largest terriers so its not surprising the are good hunting dogs..

I believe the a fairly popular in South Africa as hunting dogs but I am not exactly sure how they are used...
