young blue english

Post by 44magman »

i have a blue english male pup about a year old starting him out on bear he will go out 3 to 6 hundred yard with the older dogs and then come back out his back track .he got in on one bay up and loosly bayed the bear but when the bear left he came back out and did not go with the older dogs.when he comes back out should i put him in the box or let him loose to mill around and possibly go back in with the other dogs.it seem like he will go out and as soon as they jump it or the track gets hot he comes back out.any help would be nice . i am in maine in the mountains.

How old is he, some people think 2 is young. Does he feel part of the pack?? If he was raised with the big dogs i would say you don't have a bear dog. If he wasn't give him more time in the woods with the same group of dogs.

he is just a year old i am running him with just this group of dogs . this was the second weekend he was run on bear with this pack of dogs.we had a 5 mounth old walker pup that stayed and bayed this walking bear for 3 hours and 4 1/2 miles.just kind of disapointing to have a 5 1/2 mounth old pup show him up so bad. and the walker pup is not mine .

HE is still a pup even at a year old ,let him run with the pack more often he is finding his place in your pack . my 1 year old female started awesome and is getting better with time just keep him motivated and he will click and then it will be on like white on rice !!!!!!!!

be patient you have till the end of october to find out before the season closes that other pup is not the norm, the dog is probably checking on you.walk it in on a bayup or tree ,and observe what the dog is doing.for only twice out with strange dogs he is doing fine.

the bear he was on was a walking bear the dogs walked for 4 hours and 4 1/2 miles he went out about 600 yards when we struck the bear and then came back . we loaded him up and the first time i walked in and saw the bear he got a visual of the bear and bayed it very loosly and when the bear took off he did not follow the bear or dogs he just came back out.the second time i walked into the bear he went in and did not bay or trail .he will tree a coon by himself but he is silent on trail when he trees he will give a good locate and chop on tree.the last coon he treed he let out one locate bark but did not find the tree . i found the tree and after about 5 minnutes i calld him to the tree and he started to tree and i praised him up .should i do this or just let him not find the tree .

sounds like the dog has chosen to be a coondog, or if you run him with a good coondog that is strange to him and he acts similar to the bear run he just isnt comfortable with the company. if he can tree one i would only pet him when he finds it on its own,and trees . you dont want to make him a false treeing idiot.to bad its the wrong time of year to shoot one out to him that he trees. provided he isnt gun shy.it might wake him up.petting and praising when they do good can be just as good or better for some dogs .just take him as much as possible.the dog is showing it wants to hunt .its when they are a year old and show no interest that i can do without in my pack. this is a personnel preference .i also would stick with bear or coon not both while the dog is starting out . this is also a personnel preference, but a pup that has coon on the mind isnt going to help you during a bear race if your trying to make a beardog or vice versa.
