Re: COONS??
Well first off can you use live coon to train your dog to train in Or? Second do you need to have a trapping Lic. to trap coon there? If its all on the up and you can do it there then fish is a great bait that works all yr round. Canned Jack Mack from any food store runs about $1.00 and works great. Also anything sweet I like to use marshmallows with molasses on top they love it.

Fought this same battle a couple months ago...tuna in oil and marshmallows seemed to be the ticket for me! Scatterring one can of tuna around with somewhat of a trail leading in and wiring the other into the back of the cage worked best.

Just set the trap where nowon knows about ull b fine. I use marshmellows the bigs ones, works great! I always make a little trail leading inside the trap. Good luck!

I don't see any reason you can't use a live coon to train your pup. GOOD coonhunters use them all the time buddy.

Re: COONS??
i use marshmellows around the outside of the trap, and some peanut butter on a pice of bread in the back of the trap. i also chain it tight to a tree or a steak, that way they can't roll the cage and get out. therefore sneaky little buggers. good luck, im shure you will get on soon.
Connie butter B&T's and a little yadkin river walker.
Re: COONS??
I caught one yesterday, I put it next to a gap in a barb wire fence on a trail. there was a big log down over the fence so i tucked it away under the fence and covered the trap in grass and limbs. then i put grass ontop of the wire mesh on the inside. I used doritos and maple syrup, making sure to coat the pan and the levers inside the trap so if a coon decided to play with them but missed the pan it would still go off. I usually use tuna or sardines but that has been inefective latley.

Im with you, but in most states its illegal to use trapped coons to train your dogs. Its also illegal in most states to trap with out a trapping licence. Many on here know Fish and Game and other enforcement officers are on this site. We owe it to ourselves and all Houndsmen to follow the laws and not add to the black eye the antis have gave us.

Re: COONS??
a trapping license or "Furbearers" runs about 360 to 385 for out of state I have my residence in idaho because that where i was raised just going to college over here and I will not give up being able to actually run dogs after cats and bear for a state that only lets you run coons and bobcats. freaking sucks! Theres so many dam cats here to!

Re: COONS??
ya i noticed that after i set it. just trying to get a live one for my hounds. but ill have to wait now.
Re: COONS??
Coons are probably easier to trap than mice in your home. It doesn't take anything real complicated. Just look for coon tracks in the mud by any water, I like to set the opening of the trap just in the water to avoid catching skunks. The best and most consistant bait I have used is dog food. You should be able to catch one a night if your setting them were coons are.

Re: COONS??
i will take a small sandwitch bag and put marshmellows and peanut butter then micowave it till it melts together. seems pretty deadly. got one with in three hours and another over night.
