Hydrogen Peroxide

Post by oregonhillbilly »

I know there are several topics on her for ear mite solutions. My question in particular is can peroxide do any permanent damage if you pour it directly into the dogs ear and massage the ear?
Thanks in advance

Peroxide is very uncomfortable to a dog. Plus it will do nothing for ear mites or for cleaning in general. It actually makes things worse. It isn't the right Ph balance for a dogs ear, and it will actually make the ears moist and wet and yeasty. Cause a bad yeast infection.

Take and mix one part alcohol, one part vinegar, and 3 parts water. If the dog already has a raging infection in the ear, the alcohol is gonna hurt like hell. But it wont cause permenent damage.

Dang i mixed up the solution of vinegar, alcohol and water today, tried using a soaked Q-tip to clean the dogs ears but she was'nt having it.So i dumped a small portion directly into her ear let her go and WHOOOHOOO the rodeo was on.She made moves that would make any rodeo fan excited.Along with the acrobats she made noises that are foriegn to a dog.Tried to get some mineral oil in there but that will have to wait till tomorow.
Hope it did some good?

do not add water to the mixture also use isopropyl ( sp? ) NOT rubbing alcohol .moisture in a dogs ears can cause problems . For vinegar and apple cider vinegar seems to be better .
The iso .. alcohol acts as a drying agent and the vinegar kills the bacteria best med for a yeast infection in a ear I have ever seen gently work into ear canal and a 50/50 solution is correct for use .

This topic reminded me of a tip a Vet game me a few years back. I had dogs eat some insulation and was worried about an intestinal blockage so I phoned one of the local vets. They wanted $250 per dog to pump their stomachs. I didn't really want to spend $2000 pumping stomachs not really knowing which dogs had ate what, but I was really worried about problems. I got a call back from the older honest vet and he offered to pump their stomachs but suggested I just pour some hydrogen peroxide down their throats. That would induce vomiting and probably clean them out just as good as he could by pumping them out. For a few dollars I had little piles of nasty insulation all over my back yard.

Hydrogen peroxide works very well for this. It takes about a cup and give the dog a couple minutes before administering a second dose. I didn't think it was working so I started the second round when the pukarama started. It will definitely empty a dogs stomach.

As far as the ear mites go, I just spent the ten bucks and bought a bottle of ear mite medicine. One bottle will last a couple years and usually expires before it is all gone. Probably the easiest and safest way to go.

any time moisture gets in a dogs ear you have a large risk of creating a yeast infection if the ear does not dry out something to think about when putting medicines in dogs ears . Just keep an eye out for it.
