dc doggin DON'T LET THESE GUYS TALK YOU OUT OF THIS DOG it may be the best thing thats happen to you. this is what we start with may years ago and just kept breeding treedogs producers to it. now it's hard to find a real good cold track dog that can move a track. most guys have a med nose dog and thing its a cold nose track dog because they never had a real cold nose dog. this dog has 2 great hunting traits the nose and drive. a lot of my best big game dogs i have had was a so so tree dog until about 3yrs old. after having a lot of game shot to them that they could not see in the tree they figrue it out if they would stay put the game would come down one way or another. keep this dog off trash and don't sale it. p.s this is the fox,bobcat site. wish people would stop posting that it's not. all you have to do is read before posting.

I don't want to sidetrack too much from the original questions, but would you say in your opinion that some of the best cat dogs on the coast have at least one or two of these very track oriented dogs in the bunch? Some of the best catching cat dogs I have seen are very "track oriented" in my opinion and really want to be running a track more than treeing. Most of the good ones I am familiar with learn to hang out at/around the tree but aren't the tree/locate dogs but some of those cats would have never been treed in my opinion if it weren't for that one track oriented dog. Most of these specific dogs had some trig, running walker, or july in them and some came from Gold Beach way. Interested in your opinion. I would rather have a dog always looking for a track then one that always wants to sit down and sing treed???

wwy i think you hit the nail on the head . i am running 6 dogs right now and only 2 are sit down tree dogs the others are always looking for the track. they will tree a little then make a circle . tree a little make a circle. when these dogs bark treed u know the cat is up . i dont head to the tree untill i hear one of them locate. watching on the gps u can really see what is going on.

Yes the running dogs adds to catching cats by how they move a track. A pack that works together is the best cat dogs. I do not want a hammer headed hard slobber mouth tree dog. I feel they cause far more problem than what they help. The best locating dogs are NOT this type of dog. The dogs that take time to locate, stand back and bark steady but not a lot are usually your best locators. Some of the BEST locating tree dogs on bobcat that I have seen are part running dog, they tree because of track smarts not tree smarts. They usually take longer to learn to tree and need older tree dogs to learn from. You can look for the perfect bobcat dog in one dog but you will find very few. They learn from each other, traits that don't come natural to them. I feel that I am the closes to breeding the perfect cat dog by crossing the running, treeing, cold trailing and just smart dogs back and forth them I have ever been which is something that I feel can't be done consistently. If you breed to hard for one trait, you loose other traits. Not to say that they are not good cat dogs just not perfect. I am the hardest critic on dogs that you could find. I have NEVER seen that perfect dog there is always room for improvement. I don't get excited if a dog does not tree but will not tolerate a dog wondering or leaving a tree. Dewey
