got a free hound

Postby duxtoyz » Tue Aug 09, 2011 2:04 am

so i got this free black and tan/walker hound female that was 11 months old. ive had her for about 3 months now and she is awesome! i was told shed been started and hunted but was a slow learner. she definately was a slow learner but i finally caught a coon and showed it to her and o baby, she goes nuts. shes fierce at the cage and has a drawn out bay that sounds very determined....she trees very well, eager climber, tracks really well and ive tried roading and she seems to know how but is unsure....my buddy has a pretty awesome walker to thank for teaching her how to be a bad ass. she also a very good family dog, great with my kids and made firends with my 2 border collie mixes. she knows when to put her game face on and when to be the sweet, gentle family pet. so glad that the guy who gave her to me answered my ad....thank u very much. cant wait for the trials at the end of this month and season this year.....stoked cause im new to this scene and glad i got into it.....its a blast!!!!! :D

I may have the sister to your dog, at least it sounds like it. The dog I have is a B/T Walker mix from over on the Peninsula area. She has a lot of fire and really wants to go just needs a little direction at this point. She has a choppy bay at a coon on the ground and a longer one on the tree with a drawl at the end, kinda cool. Post a pic if you got one, I will if I can find one.

so i brought my dog out with a pack for sum training and on a live animal......she did alrite, lil uncomfortable with all the older dogs but she did come out of her shell a lil and get into the treeing action. and when the animal was caged on the ground she was at the cage doin her thing joining the other 5 dogs. and when we finally let it out to give a real chase, she was the first dog on it but when it fought back she jumped back and the others got it......i do believe shel be a good dog, just give her time, she is only 14 months old. 15 days... :D

to chadwade; maybe, i got mine from a guy from pacific city oregon. he had her parents and her, she was a slow learner and he had 2 pups he wanted to train from 8 weeks so he got rid of her. i dnt remember if he got rid of any others but he may have. she looks like a high tan with a white stripe thru her chest. shes pretty lean and long legged with mediuim length ears. has a long drawn, raspy bay whether on the tree or ground. shel come out but yes, def needs direction. shes a lil gun shy too, but thatl come with time. where u from in washington? im out of longview.

hey andy, yes i m pleased with her. she definately isnt dumb. shes real stubborn at times...lol. il have to try her on sum bear hides or scents and see what she does.....i dnt have any buddies that bear hunt but i do know ppl who know ppl so il def check. i have tried my house cats with her, putting them in my trees in my back yard and she does climb for them and bays at them, so wel c this season if she wants to be an all around animal hunter or small game. shes comn out of her shell, slowly but she isnt trained real hard, i work too much. but overall im working with her and all my coon hunting buddies r wrkin with me and her, thanx again andy.
