DC-30 and loss of GPS signal

Post by Foxhill »

I have two DC-30's that start up okay, showing full battery and gps signal. Once the dogs get out 50 yards or so, I start having problems. A question mark shows up, and on the gps signal strength bar I get one or two red boxes. With one collar, that's it for the day. The other will occasionally pick up the signal again, but won't hold it long. These collars are two years old and have about 200 days of hard use on them. Any suggestions?

Swap the GPS Antenna on the top of the collars with good ones, If that fixes your problem, then you can order the replacement collars with a new GPS antenna on top.

That seams to fix most of the issues I've seen with them.

if not You might need to send it in for repair.

The aftermarket antennas are WAY better and improve performance considerably from what i am seeing. Less dropped reception and greater distances. I also noticed that one of my collars that wasnt working as well as the others works equally as well.

Foxhill,

I have seen 3 different DC 30's loss GPS reception because the connector wasn't plugged in good to the main housing. Pull off the metal plate that holds the collar strap down and then pull the collar strap off the main housing, look where the GPS plugs into the main housing and be sure it is plugged in good. There could be a loose connection. If this doesn't work, you might have to do as Buddy said and replace your GPS antenna. Robbie

I recently had a problem comunicating with one of my collars i found that the antenna on the collar was broke so I replaced it with a tuff skin antenna and that fixed the problem. Below is the link
