To understand CA DFG's attitude about houndsman,Klein Report

Post by WPM »

To understand why Ca DFG is so hard on Houndsman read Ca DFG Klein report. Quote from report "keep the pressure on the houndsman". Quote "from our sample of about 100 houndsmen, virtually everyone was engaged in or condoned illegal activity". This was amazing to me when I read this. In fact CA DFG own facts show that Houndsmen as a group in CA are one of the most law abiding group of showsman in the State.

I've only met 2 wardens in this state that treated houndsmen like anyone else, 1 died and the other retired, the rest of them go out of their way to hassle a houndsmen. Carry a small tape recorder with you at all times and let them know they are being recorded and ask them to speak clearly and state their name and badge# and you'll be suprised how nice they can be.

There is no link to get the Klein report, I had to go to Ca DFG Director and request it under the Freedom of Information Act. I would be glad to send you a copy. In Ca there is a Ca DFG complaint form. Carry one with you. as they will not act on a complaint unless it is filled out on this form. If you get stopped do not fight them on DFG laws, but fight for your civil rights. As they tend to walk all over them. Most of your civil rights are federal and over ride State law most of the time (file the complaint form in Sacramento, not any other office, under state law they have to act on it). If you have believe you have been wronged, I would file a claim with the State Board of Control (you have 6 months from it it happen to do so). I am not an attorney, but have helpped attorneys on some cases. My business is wildlife control and I have to stay up on the laws. Yes I do have hounds. I have been raiseing my own line of trigg/walkers for over 30 years.

WPM,

For the sake of full disclosure, please be forthcoming by telling everyone how many decades ago the Klein Report was published...

Good point and it was awhile ago. But the real point is the Klein Report still being used as a guide line against houndsman. My opinion is that it is in full force. I have seen it and heard it at meetings with Ca DFG when they did not know that I had hounds and much, much more. One only has to look at the Ca wardens on NATGW this year and last. It showed wardens on flim calling a group of houndsman "poachers" and stopped them, but never giving them and ticket. Going off and still calling them "poachers". I am an old guy and maybe I heard it wrong. So you watch the show and be your own judge.

Okay guys, I understand what you are saying. Most of the times, we are stop by the game warden when we are hunting. Everyone hated and get pissed when they stop us, even myself. But that is their the job, we pay them to catch the bad guys unless we are one of them. I do believe and have seen that there are some cocky newbee warden who think they are the boss and they excerise their authority by manipulating the laws to their advantage. But don't let that get to you. My advice is to know the laws and obey it.
