Kevlar. Layered or Layer?

Postby ChargingCatcher » Sat Oct 01, 2011 1:38 am

Hiya,
Well I found Cazadores Cut Gear Is nice, 1650 kevlar 2 layers of it.
Just a quick question speaking hypothetically
Say you have those two layers of 1650 but just as equally on another vest one layer of 3000 kevlar. Which would be more protective?

She is a friend of mine - I have 2 collars she made for me, she does awsome work too. I dont use vests on my dogo's only because it seems to slow them down - I have them just never use them. I know plenty of people who have her vests and their dogs have been on multiple big hogs and the vest hold up realy good.
Theres also a guy from Florida who sells decent vests but he doesnt make them ( uses a company to make them)and you cant realy order for the size of your dog - just a generic size, neck doesnt fit tight enough to were the collar meets and its too tight between the front legs - but I only paid $75 each. I wish I would have gotten them from her, but wanted to get something from local people

Everything she makes has been tested on her friends and families dogs - they have developed them over the years to be the best for hunting dogs in all conditions. True craftsmanship in my oppinion. And its hard to find a vest to fit a dogo right, most vests are built for ab/pitts and certain curs.

People at the company seemed nice and knowledgeable.
Run vest on your dogs man. They put their life on the line for you might as well protect them, theres way to many varietys of vest out there to say its to heavy, makes them hot, or restricts their movement.

But yeah halfbreed most of the vest I rank as stuff that I own and we all wanna buy the highest quality stuff, the military grade one layer kevlar that people like
HogWire
SwampDawg
Razorback Hunting Supply etc etc etc use. One layer of of good kevlar with 2000-3000 kevlar.
But say with cazadores its less denir around 1650 but two layers of it seems really good.
Is it like math? making 3300?
I dont know.

howdy catcher i just run a 3 layer ballistic nylon vest . and they have kevlar vest now but i know that kevlar will stop a bullet but a knife will go thruogh it with ease . and being that hogs got knives not guns i'll just stick with my nylon . you might go to one of the kevlar bullet proof vest sites and find the answer you are lookin for as to the perfomance of differant weights and layers . let us know what you find out .

A knife will go through the nylon as well, the thing is a knife will go through kevlar cause The knife is very sleek and profile and can slip easily through one layer of weave.
As a hogs tusk goes down it gets thicker to the point where with high tensile kevlar there is no place in the vest for the tusk to go through, or greatly slows it down. Institutional kevlar I was told by CCG (CAZADORES CUT GEAR) if you try to put a knife through two layers it wont go through, but if held over time it will.

Again one layer of 3000 denir kevlar is great it has been proven effective by my accounts and of thousands of others, I am just curios that if two layers of 1650 (still a very high denir) will provide equal, less, or more protection.

Still not sure whether 2 layers of 1650 or one layer of 3000 is better

I googled your question, theres alot of stuff on the internet about Kevlar - but I cant find anything about that - hahaha
I would think 2 layers of anything would be better then one layer, blunt trauma will be dampened by another layer too, thats why some vests have a layer of felt or something else that takes up the hit.
I did find this, which to me sounds like it would make an awsome vest - http://www.firstdefense.com/html/Stab_1.htm, someone soon will probably be using it if they arent already

Ive been through lots of vest and after using any of the vest with poly felt as the inner layer i wouldnt have one without it on a catchdog. When the vest is made with poly felt i dont think the outer layer makes any difference.
IT AINT THA SIZE OF THA DOG IN THA FIGHT, ITS THA SIZE OF THA FIGHT IN THA DOG. http://www.dogemdownsouth.com http://dogemdownsouth.smfforfree.com

as far as running a vest no matter what material i want more than one layer .my vest is 3 layer 1680 ballistic nylon and the outer layer looks like swis cheese but it has yet to go through the second layer [knock on wood ] and the kevlar will take a cut ,so as for me i would want at least one more layer of protection . i've got buddys that bought into the kevlar so i've seen first hand what a bad hog can do to it .

Yea but like with ugly dogs stuff they have multipile layers of kevlar up to 4. If it was GOOD kevlar why would they need four?
So layers isisnt exactly good I am just curios again to see even if highier denir kevlars can even if at 1650 keep up with even one layer of 3000. I say yes.
I have always wondered if I could created my own vest and if so where. I would love a website where I could have the option of choosing what exactly goes in my vest.
