ol'red 2011fall bear hunt

Post by ol'red »

well this is the first day i been home to rest after hunting 9 days i thought i would share a lil on our hunt.we had high hopes on our second part of our season being that the first part of season went so well catching one 11 out of 13 runs.opening day we drove all day covering miles and miles of forest road and no feed for the bears or bear tracks or rigs.well saturday, sunday, monday were no different than the first day no rigs or bear sign it was the worst i had ever seen it . tuesday came around and ol'red and the crew were getting anxious to run .we start up a forest road going up about 4 miles we seen about 10 other houndsmen and dogs about 9 or so we get a good rig dump ol'red and the race was on the bear was treed with my dogs thair and about 25 other dogs . well wednesday didnt go so well either after rigging all morning wa riggeg around 11am and i knew it was not a good rig but being desperate and ol'red giving me the look like he had done hundreds of times before that he could make something happen aff he went. about 30min of trailing he finally jumped the bear was bayed up by him self so i got down 2 of my up and coming stars a plot female cindy and a bluetic stomper that i got from hound'em last winter which is really turning into a real dog well after them getting half ways to ol'red stomper and cindy struck and headed the opposit way ol'red was headed east and the crew headed west the gps was saying the crew was treed so we headed towards the dogs through about the worst country anyone would want to walk through we were about 200 yards from them when we seen the bear and dogs bolt out in front of us well we seen the bear 2 more times and never cought either of thoes bears around 5 dogs started falling out the race a few of the dogs were a lil tore up but would survive .thursday was another bad day not a rig .a friend had told us where he had seen some bear sign so we had planned on going thair friday morning friday morning we load up and me and my pack are half out of gas . we start up this forest road after a mile or so we get a good rig after cutting ol'red loose the rase was on the bear was finally treed 45min later and off we go to see what we had a 375 pound beautifull chocolate brown bear a friand of mine harvested this bear .friday night my dad called and wanted to go out the next morning on a father son run so we headed up saturday morning we circled around the mountain where the bears were eating but no rig so we free casted some dogs i turned out cindy and stomper and my dad and brother turned the jhawk and diesel soon cindy struck and the rest behind her one by one we dumped the box we had 12 dogs on that bear and the canyon sounded like a freight train of dogs going through it . about 35min later the bear was treed a local guy had a tag and wanted to harvest a bear so off we went getting to the tree we seen a beautifull blond saddle back brown bear after looking at it a figuring it was a good bear to harves our friend took his oppertunity and took the bear out ass soon as we pulled the dogs off of it we were all shocked on how big the bear was we pulled it out whole and weighed it was a lil over 400 pounds .all in all thoes 2 days erased the week of not so good hunting . when i figure how to put pic up i will do so . all in all we had a good hunt hung out with good friends and great dogs and most important had an awsem time with dad and brother. till next time ol'red and the crew are cut out again
