skunk cabbage
I know we dont have a problam with bark getting peeled. I have never seen it personaly. You jump a state into Washington and they have a big problem. Or so im told. Our grass situation is about the same except we dont have any swamps. I would also like to hear what outher people do or experience in the spring.

my experience in the spring on my permits, is lots of skunk cabbage in the swamps and I do run a lot of bears off that stuff and they do seem to be the bigger bears in there and the sows and cubs are the ones peeling and where i hunt the problem of peeling is very bad then the berries come out and they seem to quite peeling.

spring bear
Ryan,
We missed you at the meeting today. Another hunt was set for next weekend, hunt friday and saturday with a sunday weigh-in.
How did you do on the bears last spring? This post started about "counting the days" and I just can't wait to run a few blackies (or brownies too). I am hoping to have a whole month off to run the bears this Spring. How is your dogs doing? Have you ever seen the Onions while out hunting? It would be nice to have that kind of natural attractant in the woods.

i know a little farhter to the south and to the west we find alot of bears feeding on old grassy roads that can't be driven and when we cant find one to srike we have had sucess walking grassy roads. i have seen the cabbage buds in the bellys of bear but more grass than anything early in the spring. some of the timber companies i hunt for have feeders and we get to see feeding reports (how much feed has been eaten on the timber company lands) and it seems that when the fawn deer start to drop the feeding reports drop off dramaticly. i have found fawn body parts in lots of bear bellys in may and june. i have also found bears peeling trees in june and even july in some high elevations, even with the berrys out in full force. HELL YEAH, I HAVE BEEN COUNTING THE DAYS SINCE MY LAST PERMIT ENDED AND CANT WAIT TO START AGAIN!!

snow sledds in march/april
hey, don`t ya just love it when them young dogs run through the powder and bay up a bear an he starts boundrn crow hoppen at emm and all of a sudden they have too suck it up an get around in circlrd an not get caught nor pull the pin ?! it seperates the want ta bees from an experienced dog that can shagg-but-remount his attack plan quickly ! tell me he might not make a mistake that can cost him his life and he respects the game but is smart and also grittyvand get goen when the goen gets tuff !Ike wrote:Ole Ike and the Wolf Pack are ready........................
Update: I woke up to another snow storm this morning with three or more inches of new snow and it's still coming down......bottom line is we might neeed a snow sled to run bears this spring
