gunsrock,

Congrats on your pup, looks like a fine prospect.

Just some word of advice with hounds and hound guys. Listen to about a 1/4 of what they say. There might be a chance that there is some Lilly influence in those dogs, but think of it as being neat and not a recipe for success with your pup. Just hunt that dog as much as you can as see how it turns out. Regardless of era, that is still the main formula to make a dog. Most of the other stuff is BS. Get it on critters and see how it does.

While I often reminisce about hounds I've had or saw as a little kid, be more concerned with the ones in the kennel now. And keep your eyes, (notice I said eye not ears) open for dogs that are getting it done on what you want to hunt.

Remember it's all about the dogs and having fun, don't get caught up in all the other BS. Just hunt your dogs and have fun.

Thanks for the great words of advice. I'm planning on running her on coon, bobs, and lions. I just hope she'll hunt at least one of the three.

LOL,
Guns, she's dambed sure a cutie, probalby gonna make a fine dog, not that I would know. Just don't push her too hard as her mentallity is less than a 3 year old child.
I'm trying to say have patience with her or you'll do more harm than good, that I do know after training labs.

Last night I threw a coon hide on the ground and at first she was a little timid, but after I encouraged her she started barking and bayin up the hide!

My 9 week old pup tracked a coon hide to the tree, but she didn't tree it. She did get up on the tree and stare at it for awhile. I think she's gonna turn out!

Thats very cool if the dog does go back that far. I was at the Ben Lilly monument in Silver City , New Mexico during Feb. and some A**hole spray painted it

I read that book, too, Desertdog. Ben was a character. He refused to hunt on SUnday, so he would leave a track and pick it back where ever he could on Monday. He was known for sleeping in the crook of a tree when darkness fell and he was on a track. Hard core!

If it does all tie up that will be a lovely bit of history attached to your pup. Your job is to get it out there and hunting so you can make some of your own stories together with your young hound. Make your own shadow.

Ben Lilly must have been a great houndsman for folk to still be refering to him. Shucks I'm from Africa and I first learnt about him in the early 1980's.

Visit with me on facebook , to see my hunting albums and hounds.

Good luck with your pup.

Roy Sparks.

Thank you for all the replies. My pup is coming along very well for how young she is, well, in my opinion anyways. I hope she will be going good enough by December so she can chase a bob or two. She sure has turned into a little firecracker, and it's awesome to be able to see how far she has come since I started working with her. Roy, I have seen some of your photos and they are awesome! That puts a whole new meaning to chasing big cats.
