Bobcat questions from a real new to the sport person
I have read alot about fast running dogs being able to tree bob's. Just to show how new to this sport I am how fast does a dog have to be to tree a bob? I would like to be able to hunt bob's and lion's.

A fast running hound meens nothing a fast track dog that can turn the after burners on when the cat is jumped is a plus. A good conistant hound that makes very few mistakes doesnt have to be blistering fast just make very few mistakes on the track and jump will put up alot of cats. Andy

Twist said speed means little' It is how fast a dog can push a track. Which is true. None of us run sight dogs on cats, they are the fastest but only run by sight. Bobcat or lion hunting is a game of time and distance. You only have so much time to catch up with that animal before the track melts out, wind blows it out, the cat gets to the rocks or it gets dark. It does not matter much, if it is cold trailing or jumped the faster those dogs move the track the better chances to catch it. I feel the ability to move the cold track fast is far more important that the speed on a jump. A dog that moves the cold track fast will usually be fast enough on the jump. Them you throw in the ability to locate and tree. the ability to hold up to hard hunting as I do 5 to 7 days a week, 10 to 16 hours a day and sometimes 14 to 18 days straight every day. It takes a lot to make and catch a lot of cats. Dewey
