Well I have been told they will go anywhere you are brave enough to take them, BUT they are heck on the gas, if your getting them to save gas, forget it. I have been told guys average 200 miles on a tank of gas with a Grizzly 700 and tires, put tracks on the same machine and they average about 30-40 miles a tank. I just bought a Grizz 700 and I'm putting tracks on 1 Dec. Can't wait!!

I just got tracks for my Polaris sportsman 800 so I will have to let you know how it is on fuel after we get some snow. As long as you don't mind the cold I think its a lot easier getting around on logging roads especially since I have a crew cab long box ford.

Re: Do you guys use quads for the winter?
I have a Polaris 500. I have a set of the Cat Track brand tracks for it. It will take you places you have no business being in that deep of snow. You will loose about 1/2 of your ground speed with this brand of tracks due to the difference in size of the drive gear compared to the size of the tires. But that also increases your torque. Your fuel mileage does go down about 1/2 also. Where I live the tracks are much better that a snowmobile for a couple of reasons. 1. you can turn around anywhere you want to. Our canyons are pretty narrow, rocky and steep and with a sled you end up having to pick it up to turn it around. 2. Most of our roads have long sections that do not hold snow. That is real hard on the skis of a snowmobile when running on solid rock for 1/2 to 3/4 mi. at a time several time a day. 3. It is 1 less engine to have to maintain that you only get to use for maybe 2 months out of the year where I live. It is MUCH harder steer with the tracks on. The salesman will tell you that they steer the same as tires or a little harder. You basically can not turn the handle bars unless you are moving. I love mine for the country that I hunt. I hope this will help you out. Eric.

I would use a quad any day if the snow wasn't horribly deep.

I use a grizzly 700 with oversized maxxis bighorn tires. If the snow is too deep for me to get there I dang sure don't wanna get off and hike in it.

Re: Do you guys use quads for the winter?
i run my quads until the snow is too deep. oversized tires and 500 ice studs make a huge difference on where it can go. i have broke trail in the mountains with a setup like this and other machines can't follow!
Re: Do you guys use quads for the winter?
The new can am 1000 gets 10 miles to the gallon with tracks. But it will go anywhere. Cold to ride though
