Garmin vs Amateur Radio

Post by zachvu »

I'm buying a house (hopefully :D ) and the next door neighbor has 5 big and 1 small amateur radio towers (not sure exactly what they're called or much info about them) around his house. Anybody have any idea if these would fry a garmin if turned on at home??

Depends on what frequency they are on, I kind of doubt it. But I would go Introduce yourself, and chat with him and maybe get his opinion about it. I wouldn't come off as aggressive or he might think your trying to blame him.. Just Let him know there where issues with the Older models getting damaged by VHF Truck radios, and you just don't want to break your radio if he's using any frequencies close to 154Mhz.

I'm sure he would know allot more about radio's and power etc than most. Hopefully he's a nice guy and would be a good friend to have with radios and antennas. Most Ham guys are techies and they like to talk about radios as much as we like to talk about dogs.
