pleasure hunting question

Post by supermanmp »

I'm looking into the different breeds and I am only a pleasure hunter. I don't want a dog that'll only run a hot track, but at the same time I want a dog that'll be able to track fast. Which breed do you guys think would be best for me. I know every dog is different, I just want advice on the different traits a breed possesses more than others.

I am no expert at all, but lately I've been thinking that walkers seem to be more laid back, but it really, really depends upon the breeding behind whichever breed you like.

If there is a particular breed of hound that is better at hunting the game you are after then look a various breeder's dogs and talk to a few customers if you can. Then you might be able to find the traits you are after, but you might have to go through a few pups to find what you are after.

Also, most hounds will run a hot track fast, but some will also run a cold track faster than others. Look around you'll find something.

remember not to base a huntin dog on just color but on the size of the heart and drive. but i'd recomend treeing walkers. they are very fast trail dogs, fast learners and tree hard. but they have a tendency to want to run hot tracks unless you have them cold trail alot and they're just used to it. i'd recomend blue tick to because they tree hard and are fast as well as a good cold nose.
