I 've been practicing for 7-8 years and I just love hounds so feel free to shoot, I am open to pm's as well. I do work full time and have a wife and 3 crumbsnatchers so I'll do the best I can! Please also remember this is voluntary for me and I don't want any legal issues from FREE ADVICE given out!

Re: Website Vet Advice
Doc,what an AWESOME gesture! OK,I'll go first.Being like alot of houndsmen,I have used horse paste wormers.I use Strongid Paste(pyrantel pamoate) and Zimectrin Gold(Ivermectin/praziquantel).I feed Eagle Pack Power 30/20 and Purina Pro Plan Performance also 30/20.My two main dogs get hunted 6-7 nights a week 4-5 hours each.I train young dogs for people fulltime and these are my two main pup trainers. They both have recently dropped alot of weight and are having a tough time putting it back on.I am feeding them twice per day four cups per feeding. My question is do you think its possible using those two wormers they could still have whips or hooks.Should I bother with a stool sample or just panacur them.I am like most houndsmen in that funds are tight but I do usually pride myself in having dogs that look good. But if I saw these two and didn't know the care they do get I would say they weren't being taken care of.

Ok,
So first things first I have a couple of questions for you.
Is there any vomiting or diarrhea? How is there water intake? Do you check all of the medical records of the dogs you train(vaccines, deworming etc)? I am assuming that they are not fixed either, correct?
In regard's to what your feeding and deworming with it all sounds good to me! I do grab panacur off of my shelf VERY FREQUENTLY when I cannot figure out what the hell is going on! LOL so you can try that for 3-5 days and leme know.
Good luck,
Doc Neal

Re: Website Vet Advice
Panacur is a broad specturm dewomer. Pretty much gets eveything, even the weird shit! The active ingredient is Fenbendazole. It comes as a liquid of powder and is usually given once a day for 3-5 days depending on what's being treated! Nemex is good, it's the same thing as Strongid. The active ingredient in both is pyrnatel pamoate. The difference between Pyrantel and Fenbendazole is Pyrantel doesn't cover tapeworms. Pyrantel DOES get hookworms and roundworms but DOES NOT get tapeworms. Fenbendazole(Panacur) gets just about everything!
Good luck,

(Panacur) gets just about everything!
If this gets rid of everything, why give anything else? Side affects? Cost?
Is this prescription only?

Thanks Doc.No vomiting or diarrhea.Good water intake.I so far have just taken everyones word on medical(unless of course they are flown in,then they have to have health cert.)Neither is neutered.I will bite the bullet and get some panacur.I will keep you posted.Mondo it(panacur) is pretty spendy, but as doc said it will get things the horse wormers won't.

Re: Website Vet Advice
To me price depends on how improtant it is to you, ya know! Hell, I'm getting a new pack together and these trackers are EXPENSIVE as hell to me but then again how important is it to me.
For the most part I thought Panacur was prescription but I swear the other day I was picking up some meds for the kids and the pharmacist had some behind the counter. I know her pretty well, since mykids are sick ALL the time, and I asked her was that over the counter and she siad yes they just keep it back there.
You can also check 1-800-PET-MEDS and see if they'll ship it to you.

Re: Website Vet Advice
I am not familiar with Ovuplant BUT I will look it up tomorrow and get back to you. I do know that after 7 this bitch would be considered a senior therefore things can change. Do you have other intact bitches used for breeding, if so keep them together see what affect this has. Also if your willing to take a trip to the vet have them check an Estradiol level and some routine bloodwork, never know what you might find. And if everything is normal, just give her some more time.
I'll get back to you tomorrow.
Good luck,
Doc Neal

Re: Website Vet Advice
Doc,
I have a JRT that continues to get fleas. My other hounds are flea free, and I use admire/cattle tags on them. I have used everything from admire to front line to dip to others. Do you have anything you can recommend me using. I wash her with dawn and kill them all, wait a day, then put the liquid down the backbone, then keep her from messing with it for a day or two. By the end of the week, she has fleas again.
I am working on getting a medical kit together as I have recently gotten into bear dogs. What do you recommend I keep in it? I keep blue spray, penicillin, and such on hand for the deer dogs, but realize I am going to need a stapler and such. I know these dogs will get beat up some, and I want to be ready.
