Sore leg

Post by Bearkiller »

One of my dogs was hit on the hind leg by a bear on 12/2/09. It was a pretty deep gash but nothing too major. Since then, when he's been run HARD, he's gotten a little gimpy in that leg. Nothing bad, just tender. After coon hunting last week on an easy race, he came up basically lame in that leg. He has put a little weight on it today but not much. There is nothing else wrong with his leg and he is visually uncomfortable when I touch that spot. I've never really delt with anything quite like this where it's an old injury that flared up years later. I don't want to get a bunch of money tied up into this dog. He's not a superstar. Just a decent dog. Should I just give him aspirin and see what happens? He's not an old dog 6 or 7. Any other ideas? If nothing else, I'll take him to the vet if it's a problem.
Don't buy the hype.

I would give him plenty of rest and an anti-inflamatory such as Rhymidal. Old wounds tend to eventually show back up from time to time, even in people. I'm sure your dog will recover after a week or so, unless it's another injury you're unaware of. Good luck.
