DIY. You can get Vacs at most Farm and Ranch stores or online. They are around $4-5.

Can't get rabies vaccine at the farm store.
Re: vacainations
I used to diy, but it's not that much more from my vet and where I board my dogs they require proof of all shots.

Re: vacainations
vets here will not do it without an exam adds up to approx 90 per. vet supply sells them for 8 per plus the needles. hate doing it though it is easier then doing a horse! witch reminds me i should be getting that done soon too....
Re: vacainations
I have always had the vet do this. I have heard that you have to be careful bying the shots from ranch stores, make sure they are refrigerated or it could make you dogs real sick. I only have two dogs to it's not to bad, and i like to get my dogs into a vet for a exam once a year anyways. I think i owe it to my dogs to make sure they are taken care of.

Hunt primarily in the Southeast.
Re: vacainations
I guess im kinda biased. Some feed store vaccines can be useless. Most states require
that a vet do the Rabies. I also think our dogs should be checked once a year.
Just my humble opinion
Good luck,

Re: vacainations
Well I'm gunna start giveing the shots that I can for one it is cheaper kennel cough was 15 at the vet or 5.95 at the feed store and i'm also gunna give a 7 way plus. $6.95 at least 15-20 at the vet my vet req an exam once a yr $35 so they get that so they can get there rabies$25 bucks or something. On the damn exam at they do is listen to there heart and take there temp $35 bucks I know the got school to pay for but geez. So with the 7way plus and the Bordetella (kennel cough) , from what i've read i've got everything covered except rabies and lyme which u can give yourself but i've only seen it sold in large lots and is expensive. With 3 dogs you are right i.m not saving that much $20-50 per dog so $150 a year. Well thats at least a half tank of gas. But the main reason is I have to make a damn appointment w the vet right in the middle of a day of hunting, and i have to walk in and clear the vet of all cats LOL.

Re: vacainations
You guys need new vets
$12 for rabies... $10 for puppy shots (including exam and worming).. I have an old dog that gets a cortizone shot- $5 and they let me pick it up and give it to him.. Any other shots, they charge you just for the shot, not a visit.. I take all my dogs in for shots since they are so cheap.. That way it is all on record..

Re: vacainations
X2 Melanie...I just switched vets and paid $10 for a rabies shot, but I still give them all their other vacs. myself and if I need to board them, I show them the receipts and they take that as proof.

Re: vacainations
hay everyone i am just getting into this and am wondering what shots to give my dogs and when? I know they need the distemper and ether the 7-way or 5-way( which do people prefer?) are there any others i should be aware of? i live in central Utah and mainly run the dogs on lion and bobbers.
Thanks ahead of time.

Re: vacainations
I use a series of the 5-way for pups and then the 7 way annually for adult dogs. Rabies are a must and local ordinances typically dictate frequency.
