Breeding for Black Feet

Post by Ker_man »

Black feet are a given on many breeds of hounds and thought to be better.

Treeing Walkers and many running dogs can show a lot of pink.

In your breeding program or choice of a stud dog, is the black feet/pigmentation a priority.

I m kinda on the fence about pad color simply because some with light pads have ran really well for me with no issues. However some have really slipped pads if not carefully conditioned. I look for build in the foot then use caution and choose the dark pads. I would definitely use it as a tie breaker. And like you said its pretty easy to stay away from light pads. I do have one now that has to be kept on gravel and in condition or she will slip one of her back pads.
