I would have to agree with John on this debate that's 33 to many! I have killed sow bears in the past and have regretted it. I have learned from my mistakes. If I can't tell let it go. Like my buddy pete richardson says if you kill that sow bear you just killed the cubs also and there future cubs. What will you have left to run in the future.

i was hoping that this would would open up some eyes and it has. if you TRY to see the hair that i am talking about you will learn to see it. if the bear is 100 feet up a big pine i can tell you rite now that it is not a shooter 90% of the time and if you think that it is then let it down so you can see or WALK AWAY. out of 6 regions in the state that there is a population goal set 4 out of 6 have never reached the goal and are on the way down 2 have gone over and now are on the way down.was not two many years ago that the population was over 5000 now it is down to 4800.if you if you go by what the cos tell you they would make you think that we are over run with them all based on problem calls in the summer. next summer when all the bears are down in town you walk back in the woods and tell me how many bears you find not many because the bears that are in town are all your resident bears.if we have so many bears then how come we don't have any problem bears in the fall? i am not saying that we don't have any bears i am saying that if we don't smarten up we wont have any.the state will admit that they do have some concern about are bear population.the state determines the population from the year before data so that are all ready a year behind the 8ball. o ya i no i cant spell.

i think that there are as many to day as twenty years ago. twenty years ago there were more dedicated hounds men. to day there are a lot more weekenders.

i have to agree with john, and in my opinion no matter what the bear pop is why would you want to take a sow anyway??? we only have a training season here no kill season and to be honest i hope they never open the kill season, we have tons of bears now but with a kill season every tom dick and harry will be out, i run all training season and never see another truck with hounds, i guess what i am saying is i run bear for the dogs and cuz i enjoy it, not for the kill, and if our kill season was open there would be guys here that arent here now doing it for all the wrong reasons, there is alot too be learned from this post i hope others can see it

the hairs that i mentioned are called marking hairs they are on the very end of a males penis and a sows vulva. they urinate through them to place sent each hair has its own gland at the end of it.they are very to see when they are wet especially on the sows.more times then not a bear is nerves when it is treed so it will all most always urinate making them wet.ill try and post some photos if i can remember how[img]http://i43.tinypic.com/357rp6b.jpg[/IMGMALES

SOWS. i am working on getting some better photos. the top photo is with the hairs dry a little harder to see but once you learn what to look for it not so hard.
