ursus plotts
I was looking into getting some new dogs, looking for more "stick" on game, mostly coon and bear. i was wondering how many guys hunt or have hunted these dogs. i got a buddy that just got a few young ones, but has not hunted them yet.

Re: ursus plotts
A friend of mine hunts them and they have plenty of stick. Small compact dogs that are fast as lightning. Good luck with them.

Re: ursus plotts
A friend of mine picked up a couple last year and has been very happy with them. Plenty of grit for bears and he has had good success with them on cats to.

I have one thats about seven now, he will not quite a bear and is good on lions to.. this dog is not exceptionally fast though. but he is always there when the going gets tuff.. he is a tipical plot though, a little testy some times

Re: ursus plotts
i had a female ursus dog that was as gritty as a man could ask for she had a dang good nose an was pretty fast she loved hogs an bears i was was gone breed her the next time she came in heat but a bad boar hog killed her last summer all them ursus dogs ive been around handled real good to
Re: ursus plotts
I don't know what line the plots I bought are off. I can state that they are very cat footed and quick. They are energetic in the nature of a terrier, but the biggest downside is they are poor handling.

For you guys that have Ursus dogs. Will you post the parents of the pups?

Extremely slow. My experience, the party was over before they could get started. Might be good for rabbits or other small, slow game. Good luck.

I have been very interested in getting one my self. I have been trying to get ahold of steve for some time now and we just end up playing phone tag. Do you guys now how much he wants for a pup? And for the guys that brought them over the border did u have any problems?

Re: ursus plotts
Im not sure what kind of a price, but if you dont have a passport, he may drive over the boarder to give the pup to you
Re: ursus plotts
I have had a bunch of them and the success rate is about 50%. The Ursus dogs are not proven on Lion or Bobcat. You could probably count on one hand how many lions Steve has caught with his dogs. Some have good noses and some don't. Some are slow, some are fast. Most seem to have a good amount of grit. Some are blocky, some are racy. The Ursus dogs in my opinion are all over the map in consistency. Just to many different lines involded in the Ursus dogs. From what I hear, you want the Ursus/Gantte dogs Steve is breeding. The Gantte dogs are bringing size and toughness to the table.
Make sure you understand the return plocy. The last I heard you must return the dog for a refund. I wonder where those dogs go? Second, make sure your pup is not a return pup. If you get a good one you will have somthing!
For those that have dogs that came from Steve, I sure would like to hunt with them.
Good luck, if you want more info PM me.

Re: ursus plotts
The 2 pups i got from steve are doing good, like i said i have had them only a few weeks, they are just coming on 7 months, they have been on a few coon now and ran the track, opened on the track and were treeing... the caught on VERY quick, first coon shot to them they knew what to do with it. one of them is riding the rig good and both seem to be striking game.
Re: ursus plotts
I think some of the line can be real good. They didn't work for me, some of the other lines of plotts worked better for me.
