question on upgrades for dc30 collar

Post by J.R. »

I have a dc30 collar got it on fathers day 2011 it works very well dont drop it much and get great distance out of it when tracking.
Question is should i do the upgrades to the collar or stick to the old saying "if it aint broke dont fix it"
I just got a new astro320 and a dc40 collar for x-mas and was thinking with this new 320 the distance on my dc30 would be really good cause it worked very well with the old 220

any thought would be good to have thx JR

Absolutely. The updates are to fix known problems. If you update your 320 fully. Can update your collars without hooking anything to the computer.

IMO. If it's tracking great I wouldn't mess with it.

If your 320 is fully updated like I said. You can update your collars without hooking them to the computer. When you update the 320 or anything else for that matter. Most of the time when the update is complete. It will ask if you want to check for addtional updates like voice. If you click yes. It will show there is an update for the collars. This will install the latest updates for the collars on the 320. So then all you have to do is follow the update process for the collars as you would normally. You just wont have to hook the unit to the computer like was required with the 220. This already has been handy for me, and will be in the future. I end up hunting with guys all the time that have not, or dont know how to update. WIll be able to do it for them in the field.

Also in regards to the updates. They are there because of known issues, and improvements. So it is best to make sure this is done. If you do have a problem. Garmin will require you to do the updates before replacing anything in most cases. The DC40 for example had a charging problem that would cause collar failure. This was fixed in an update.
