Just go to Mike Leonards cat training page and thats a good way to definetly get started and follow what he says cause it works well and i have used it and have gotten good results and make sure you use grawes scents cause it the only true scent.

I always just run my pups with my friends good cat dog. A good honest cat dog will teach them pups.

Get him in there with an old dog. The best is to start walking him on tracks.

Turn that pup in with a "proven" older dog. That will teach that pup the finer points of trailing up a cat.

I suggest aquiring a fresh bobcat hide instead of using scent. Cut it into pieces and use that like you would a rag with scent. Don't use drags, but the stick method thats in the cat training piece. Also work just as hard on trash breaking, but make sure your pup has the opportunity to trail a bobcat or your own made scent trail while trash breaking. Don't punish it for trashing then throw it in the kennel, give it the opportunity to do the right thing. Once trash broke and its interested in bobcat, hunt the living shit out of it. If theres no snow, free cast it in bobcat country. There is nothing that will make a better dog than hunt, hunt and hunt some more. Turning it with older dogs will work, especially for getting them started, but in the long run if it learns on its own it will be a much better dog.
