Wolves coming to California???
Heard that in the future there is a good chance that there will be wolves in Ca. There are no plans for them to be introduced, But with the growing population and big territories there could be some in Ca soon?? I dont know but i dont want any in Ca.

Just a news artcile on here somewhere that one of Oregons wolves they are tracking headed into California. If they arent there already they will be there in a year or two Id imagine. California probably wont manage them just like they dont their cougars and they will be all over

Re: Wolves coming to California???
The title should be wolves IN California...the wolf is here, he is being tracked, neither the Oregon or California Fish and Game will give a location but my best guess would be the Klamath area.
I have heard rumour of wolves causing problems in another area of the state right now but it is hearsay and I won't say where as I think the big coyotes might be getting smoked like cigarettes and those old boys don't need help or interference.
I kinda can't believe this hasn't been a bigger story on here. I'll post a link to the latest news article on it unless I find somone else has.

See the post by walkerdog...it's the first one I've seen that states a location, they were being all secretive about it. Last I heard they thought he was going onto the Klamath country? But guess I heard wrong.

Re: Wolves coming to California???
We've had a couple confirmed wolf kills up here in North Central Washington. One was a HUGE bull Moose the other a cow Moose. Ive seen wolf tracks while hunting this winter, sure makes a guy not want to hunt that area. The tracks Ive seen are solo but the wolf kill from last winter on that cow moose was 2 wolves together. Our Fish and Wildlife department for our tribe has confirmed sightings on game trail cameras that I have personally seen since I work for them. Its just a matter of time before they overrun most western states. Washington State has more packs then they have confirmed, WAY more, by the time they have the amount of breeding pairs that they are shooting for there will actually probably be double that amount.

Re: Wolves coming to California???
Hey BuckNAze, just curious how your tribe feels about wolves? My people were (are) not fans in general but being as we don't even federally exist we probably won't get much say (of course there are those tribal members now who don't do much but sit inside and play the X-box and might think it's ganja groovy that wolves come back cause 'Dances with Wolves' told them so).
But I digress...anyway just curious if your people want them back and or if you will get to do with them what you want on your land?
Seems like most of the west coast tribes were not huge fans as they (wolves) seem to have had a reputation for eating people quite often during the winters.

Re: Wolves coming to California???
Never heard of em trying to eat people but our tribe is managing for one breeding pair, how we are going to monitor that one breeding pair is beyond me but our tribe doesnt want them, we are a subsistance tribe who wants to support our people first. We are also working with the state on managing wolves on the North Half which use to be part of our reservation which we have hunting rights on for one breeding pair. Once we have a confirmed breeding pair from what I have been told (there arent actual regulations yet) they will be free game to shoot just as a coyote. Our tribe has seen what happened in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho and doesnt want that to happen here. Our tribe spoke out at a wolf meeting held in Spokane recently and let it be known what our intentions are. We are a soverign nation and make our own game laws and the only way we wouldnt be allowed to hunt something is if it was federally protected (like the wolf was before) but now that it isnt we can make our own game laws for harvesting them and management of them. We practice pretty good game management here and we intend to manage to the wolves.

Im sure they will be just as bad as your cougars problem but 10x worse once they are there. I doubt California will even manage for them

Glimpse of how wild wolves may be treated when they reach California?
