Your insight on new pup

Post by warrenj »

i got a walker pup from a guy who didnt have time to hunt him, is a nice looking hound. he was free. the guy said i cant tell you anything about his hunting because he never had the time to get him out. The guy gave him to me because he got him free also. I been watching this pup which i have on a ten foot chain, he is always moving around with his noise in the air trying to wind something. Not knowing anything about his hunting, parents background, would you guys think this is a good sign that he will turn out. cant hunt till july. just wondering if any of yous seen this and what happen when you did get them out there. im hoping he turns out he has an awesome voice. he'll be used for bear.

Well, he was free and you know his nose works so that's a pretty good start !
A far cry from an indication he'll turn out but you'll find out soon enough, good luck.

The first thing you need to do is start teaching him to come when called know his name to load and all other basic obediance steps. Start conditioning him road him daily and get him use to all kinds of different things in the every day world. Just because its not hunting season doesnt me they set on the chain and learn nothing. When season gets here you will be glad you have done your home work. Hope it all works out. Andy

Catch a coon, or find the game you want to turn him out on.

I agree with twist, You need to make sure the dog has some obedience before you take him into the woods and turn him loose or you will be in for a big headache and problem after problem.

I agree with the above comments getting the the dog off the chain and working with him will also help your dog gain some real world experience. It should help him when you can actually take him hunting to catch on a lot faster.

Woods woods woods woods woods i cant say it enough a dog has to be in the woods to make it happen. It wont learn nothing on a chain. Whether you just out coon hunting or anything Woods time is the most impotant thing to me!!!!!!!
