Idaho and montana bobcat hounds?

Post by Daniel Tremblay »

Well I am a little bored sitting here waiting for the storm to hit tonight. So my curiousity got the best of me. I was wondering what strain of dogs you guys in Idaho and Montana are having the best luck with treeing and locating bobcats in big timber?

I'm waiting for the storm also......Well I agree with Jason on having good luck with several breeds. I prefer a dog that is super fast and isn't as loud on the trail. I hunt the RED one's. Good luck to all when she snow's!!

I am sitting in the motel in seeley hoping it wont snow. Will make hunting tomorrow tough. The best one I have owned was a half lightfoot dog I got from d. Meyers. I have neat memory and photo of her with her first bobcat in Dec. Of 2001. Ten years later to the week I caught one with her at 11 plus years .old. better yet she helped teach five other dogs that bobcats are to be treed and located. A lot of cats have and will be caught directly and indirectly because she was special. She has helped walkers, English and blueticks learn to catch, not just chase.

Here is a whopper we caught yesterday. Probably 35 pounds. The old Girl just helps young dogs catch more game. Never underestimate how much an experienced dog can do for your pack. I would not really call them "bobcat" dogs like west coast dogs, but they catch bobcats in snow. It is pretty brushy and steep with some rocks but overall not the toughest conditions like cliffy ledgy ground.

Thats an awesome picture. I sure wish I could get a cat in a tree like that. Mine are always in monster pine trees 100ft in the air lol. So does anyone know of any banjo bred dogs making big names for them selfs in this part of the country?
