I was wanting to get some input on a routine vaccination schedule for my 8yr. old and my 13wk. old pup.It seems to me we used to worm the older dogs every 6 months or as needed and give them their 8 way booster once a year with the rabies every 2 yrs.?Then the pups got their worming at 6,9,&12 weeks along with their 8 way.Not sure when we gave them their rabies,it's been too long to remember all that stuff. It seems like everything I have read on this comes up with something different.
Also has anyone used that Heartgard for heart worms on their dogs before and if so how did they like the results?
Thanks
Charles

I have never used Heart Guard personally, but thats what the local vet here pushes. I am to thrifty(cheap is such a harsh word
) so I use Ivermec. I was always told that with any heartworm meds to have the vet run a blood test to make sure the dog is clear of heartworms before giving any meds to prevent them. And so far (knock on wood) haven't lost one yet to heartworm.
valbazen.I have wormed my dogs regularly for 2 years and had a dog that was hard to keep weight on in the winter.Well I noticed they had tapeworm and did not know most dog wormers do not kill these.I bought Ivermectin but was told if your dog has heartworm it will kill them to fast and your dog will die.I bought Valbazen at a feed store it is safe and knocked the hell out of the tapeworms it is spendy about $45 for a small bottle but it will last a long time. And it kills everything.
