anyone run bobs at night?

Post by Beimel »

I never ran them at night before. I heard some stories like they will never tree or bay up at night. Is this true? I dont know what the difference would be between night and day for why they would run any different?

Since cats are mainly nocturnal, it is usually easier to find fresher tracks, but I've never run them in Pa. I think getting your dogs used to running at night might be something to consider.

I've never tried to hunt bobcat during the daylight, I always figgerd since they are mostly nocturnal, dark thirty would be the best time to hunt them. Dad always hunted at night. So I never thought about daylight hunting them. Maybe he hunted at night because he had to work during the day?

I hunt snow mostly and I have caught a few this year at night. I cut tracks after work or in the morning. When the conditions were junk early I did alot of roading at night and hope to cut a hot one if I was lucky. As cobalt said they are mainly nocturnal so in my mind hotter tracks. I don't think it makes a difference on your catch myself but I prefer early morning. Hunt into light, not into night is a saying I picked up from a book.

A lot of guys hunt at night out here I did when I was younger and occasionally now, more so in the open pine country. Cats will move any time of the day here, more at dawn and early evening. You get hotter tracks at night but traveling tracks, cats with empty bellies that will run more. In the day time you will cold trail them up get a clean jump and tree easier. To me cat hunting is cold trailing , hunting in the day time I can see and help the dogs more. In the hot weather hunting at night is easier on the dogs. Each to there own, cat hunting is great any way you do it. Dewey
