Well hello yall,, I see most of the 'crew' has had the opportunity to respond concerning Ursus Plotts, thought Id join in.

The Ursus website www.ursusplotts.com is invaluable in getting an understanding into the history and performance of this line of dogs. I had the opportunity to hunt with Steve Mohr in B.C. Canada this last fall for a month and had a blast! I actually talked with Steve today and finalize some plans for me to hunt this coming April. I currentely own 4 Ursus bred dogs, all young dogs and like them very well.

Some observations that I appreciate is their ability to get along with other dogs, courage is "over the top," treeing instinct and endurance is excellent, speed is decent. Side by side I seem to have no trouble keeping up with any other pursuit hounds. Nose might vary some but most are above average to way above average, being proven in the desert climate of central B.C. where Steve Mohr hunts. Ursus Plotts have been proven multiple times on Grizzly bear, not many turn loose on those monsters, Steve has harvested several with his dogs. He's been at it 50 years this year and still making plenty of folks happy with the dogs they got from him.

Ernie, you can't tell someone to call another guy to get the record straight if he is not going to set the record straight. That don't make any sense. Why call if you can't even talk to him.

Bob, you are right most people, not just hound guys, drive a little fast. Therefore it is no big deal to speed and wouldn't cause you to leave the country. It definately was not dedication or sacrifice either. I don't hold it against him as long as he paid his debt to society.

The last question I asked was retorical. If anyone gets on here and says something negetive about the Ursus dogs then they getted piled on and told how big a piece of crap they are or their dogs. That is why you only hear the good. I know a dozen guys that think Ursus dogs are worthless. Same goes for the Nabek dogs. You either like them or you don't. The only thing is if you don't like what I like I don't think less of you.

Kyle popping in just prooves this point more. Those pictures he posted are not desert, it is the same terrain the rest of the guys out west hunt. It has vegetation, for example the grass and trees, New Mexico and Arizona are desert country. Steve Mohr is not the greatest houndsman that ever lived. His dogs do well for the guys that are his buddies. He is not that only one that sends dogs to other countries either. There are plenty of other guys that tell their stories about going over there and being succesfull, they just are not trying to market the dogs they hunt like Ursus inc and his cheerleaders so they aren't as loud.

To prove my point even more there was dog mentioned in this very thread, a bitch to be exact, that was owned by 4 other guys before Steve Mohr got her back. Let me reiterate, born at Steves house sold as a pup, then sold later, then sold again, and then sold again because she didn't meet the standards, and then Steve bought her back and bred multiple males to her, not at once though. So no they are not liked by everyone, and yes the only guys you will hear from are members of Ursus Inc, because those are the only guys that get them. Once you fall out of good graces with group you no longer get them, Dennis made that point clearly with Marshall.

That you obviously don't know WTF a desert is when you post up pics of the rocky mountains! Pretty hard to take your opinion as unbiased after a stretch like that.

Larry (?) you don't seem familiar?? Can I ask Larry what dogs/line of dogs are you currently hunting? I told everyone what works for me and what I'm proud to own, what dogs work for you? Do you own any dogs? What is there background?

Matt Reed, how is the bear hunting in COLORADO going these days? Let us know when you move to a State that allows bear hunting with dogs, then I might consider your oppinions..
