whats up with california bears?

Does anyone know why fish and game hasn't updated the bear harvest number? It only shows up to December 21 and the same thing when you call the number.

Hi Bowtech,

I believe DFG is waiting for the last of the tags to trickle in, but I am not sure if this is why they hadn't updated the count sooner. I was in a meeting with the Bear Program Coordinator today, and he indicated that a little more than 1300 bears were reported taken.

This is a E-mail I sent into F&G asking about the Bear quoata for 2011, I'll update as I get a total.

Dale,

Currently, the Department is still processing all the incoming Bear tag report cards. The deadline to submit them was February 1, 2012. The last count total that I was told at the end of December 2011 was 1307. That total does not include all the bear harvest report cards. I can send you a final total when it becomes available if you would like.

If you have additional questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact me by telephone at (916) 928-7414 or via email at rcarmonalucero@dfg.ca.gov .

Thank you,

I’m trying to find out how many bears were tagged for 2011, the last update is dated 12-21-2011 when you check your web site and when you call the toll fee number.

That doesn't make much sence to me as you have 10 days to validate so 10 days after seaso closes they should have their number, right.

I agree or at least update the number to whatever they have so we at least have an idea. The numbers are low this year and as far as i know the lowest in quiete a while. We only shot one this year and that was because it was my first bear.
