Top gun nothing against you for asking the question. But to those of you who answered porcupine or even better survey marker you need to head to the hills more often.

Here is another mind bender for you guys when you see a cat or bear track how can you tell which way it is headed? (Note: All stupid answered will be made fun of)

I've seen moose do this many times.

Ive seen a gray squirl strip the bark off a tree at my house he was starting to ruin all my trees. NOT SAYING this is from a squirl tho. He would start at the top and work his way down. These were all redwood trees tho where the bark is soft.

it is most definantley elk. when a porcupine chews bark they do it towards the top of the tree and chew a complete circle around the tree. thats what kills the tree. elk and deer eat aspen bark all winter cause the snow gets deep and keeps them from the grass.

Idk anything about aspen trees, but around here (wa) the bear do that in the spring time when the trees are growing an full of pitch. Also I notice the bear sometimes return to the same spot each year to peel again. We have mostly fur trees.

Elk I have seen it hundreds of times.

The next time you or a friend kills a really old bull elk that spends time in the high aspen country save it's skull and check out the elk's teeth. Usually you will find about midway back or a little more on old bulls a gap worn down in their teeth. Many times these old bulls hang up in the high country much later than cows and the deep snows come in on them and they go to work on the smaller aspen limbs. they will get the branch in their mouth and then jest jerk their head sideways and strip that bark right of those limbs with their teeth. After many years of doing this they will have a pretty worn limb notch in their teeth.

elk or moose in the winter they eat the aspen bark cause thats all thats around more then likly moose,

It's moose, I have a few areas where I do my hunts and the trees are dead from them eating the bark.
I have watched them lots do it, they rake upward with their bottom teeth peeling it of with little effort.

Got to be a moose or elk.
