HD 120
Does anybody have a lion tag for HD 120 in Flathead county? I know of a certain tom that could make someone famous.
Re: HD 120
Damn I wish I did. I'd like to run a nice Tom with ya it's been slow here few bobcat run's but no big cat's.
Re: HD 120
i think i may be able to get ahold of someone with that tag. pm me
Re: HD 120
I believe Jim Harrell hunts that area. He's out of Swan Lake. Whether he has the required tag I couldn't say. But he does have the expertise and the dog power. He's also no nonsense, so you'd be wasting your time if you're trying to pull something. (Sorry to sound cynical but i don't find most people to be all that generous.) Anyway, I found Jim to be very honest and pleasant to deal with. I sure liked dealing with him. And I'm a grumpy old man who doesn't much like anyone, so i think that's saying something. You can look his phone number up online at http://www.highlonesomeblueticks.com .

Re: HD 120
I can't really figure out what I would be trying to pull. I have been hunting units that border that HD. I have some friends working in 120 and have had a big fat tom killing deer in the strip for the last month. There are a couple other cats working the same jobsite. I thought someone that might have a tag would appreciate a tip if they would consider using a certain taxidermist. To be honest, if they planned on hanging the hide on a nail by it's nose, I probably would not give them the tip. Those of you that sent me PMs are now aware of the angle. Clearly you would be on the honor system as enforcement of such an arrangement would not be my intention. I can't clearly tell you how big he is or if you could even find him, but I treasure such little nuggets of info when they come from a reliable source. You will have to determine on your own if I am indeed reliable. I can assure you I would only like to mount the cat.

I dont see what some of you guys are stiring the pot over here??? A guy (taxidermist) knows where there is a nice, big tom......he is willing to reveal the location to a licensed hunter. In return, he would simply like to do the taxidermy work for the guy. What the hell is wrong with that??? I think some people on here just look for something to bitch about.

Re: HD 120
Ok. Lets say I restore cars I am considered one of the best there is. I happen to know where there is a 69 Z28 all matching numbers 327 with 62,000 original mile sitting in a barn in HD 120. I don't have the means to buy it but would love to do a ground up restoration, because I think it deserves it. So I go on the " Love Camaro" site and offer to share my discovery with a prospective buyer in the hopes that he would have me restore it. Why is it, when a gets a hounddog he's quicker to "fuzz up"?

I don't get the skepticism either. If I were a taxidermist I would want to mount the bigger cats. I am sure there is a certain amount of work that is just routine, but occasionally there is a really large cat that makes the job that much more enjoyable. I don't get to experience that sort of thing very often, I pump septic tanks for a living, so dealing with something that is bigger than usual isn't exactly a treat.
Yaak Attack,
I hope you found some one with a tag that isn't a skeptical D-bag. You posted your response while I was typing mine. I see where you are coming from.

Re: HD 120
IDK why I'm so skeptical of this, something about it just isn't sitting well. The camaro analogy wouldn't seem to hold water if there were 130 of em already sitting in your shop. I'm sure of those 130 lions, alot of em are pertty good sized cats considering your reputation, unmatched quality and expense of your work. I am a huge fan of your talent. 130 lions times $4k $520,000 in taxidermy sitting in your shop right now.... say you only take home half, $260,000, and thats just lions, not african cats etc etc. Maybe you take home less than half, maybe more, still doin pretty good. I do know that if i was to kill a monster of a lion i would pay for the quality and it would go to you, guess this is something that i wouldn't be surprised to see a lesser struggling taxidermist post up. Something about needing to mount that one more big cat through blackmail is striking me as a bit greedy. As i said, i have a ton of respect for you and your abilities, sorry if I've offended you.

Re: HD 120
No offense. I just don't get to mount very many cats from around here, and very few that are big. Not all cats are created equal, some cats are like working on vegas or novas. other are like working on rarer birds like the old Hemis. I am facinated by big cats the bigger they are the more they intrigue me. What made them grow a 15 and 8 or 15 and 10 skull. To me they are truly amazing. Sure I have worked on a bunch of big cats, but mounting a truly big lion never gets old. Like treeing them does not happen nearly often enough for me. The mature toms in our neck of the woods are generally smaller thanother parts of the state. This, I feel is due to managing for numbers. You kill ten mature toms here and they will average under 140 pounds, but every now and then someone will stack a 185 pounder that nets 15 and 9. You scratch your head and wonder where did that thing come from? I don't get at all excited when I see cows and raghorn bulls, but if I saw a 380 bull or found his sheds or got a chance to mount one from my county, I would get a little tingly. Sorry if all cats are the same to you. To me there are two kinds of lions, those that make you slobber and marvel at the sheer magnatude the creator gave them and all the rest.

Re: HD 120
I don't see what the problem is here.
He knows where there is a big tom hanging out, most if not all houndsmen receive tips from people in the bush and appreciate the thought.
I would imagine he sees a lot of dink cats come in and if there is somebody with that tag in that area that MIGHT be considering a mount of a solid representation of the species, theres a good chance he can point them in the right direction and will if they are. I bet he appreciates a solid tom !
The spin off of being a taxidermist doesn't change the fact at the end of the day its still a nice tip off, it'd be no different if he were a logger.
I see nothing selfish about it.
