I see you can buy 1/8" #/letter stamps at harbor freight for $ 8. Find some brass plate and it should work. I would not try and hit them with a 5 # hammer but I think h.b. has lifetime warrenty on everything in the store.

Customcollars sells brass name tags engraved for 1.50

They do work and turn out ok but nothing like the ones you can buy from Customcollars, Nitelite and so one. On a side note the stamps they sell will hold up very well I have used my set 100's of times at work and they are still going strong.
