HB 4119, the cougar bill, has been scheduled for a hearing on Tuesday February 14th at 1pm in HR D at the State Capitol in Salem. The hearing is before the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

It requires ODFW Wildlife Commission to create a pilot program that allows persons to use dogs to hunt or pursue cougars. Allows the ODFW Commission to adopt rules to create and implement the pilot program. Allows the county governing body to request inclusion in pilot program. Sunsets January 2, 2020.

• This bill allows for the development of a pilot program for select county cougar management zones
• The pilot program�s primary goals are to reduce cougar conflicts and to assess cougar populations
• Counties can opt to take part in the program, they do not have to do it
• Oregon has a wildlife management problem and HB 4119 allows counties to deal with that problem
• It gives the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife the tools to deal with big game depredation and assist them in obtaining big game management objectives
• It puts cougar management back in the hands of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife
