Im wanting to tan my own hides who knows a good method of tanning with the fur on that leaves the hide soft

Go to Taxidermy.net, everything you wanted to know. Home tanning, jobs are difficult, time comsuming and rairly work out very well. Unless it is just because you want to do it yourself, I'd highly suggest sending it off to a proffessional. If you're only doing one or two pieces, you can't do it as inexpensively as the proffessionals. And you'll never get the same quality as they do. But they will also never tell you all thier secrets. I can't agree more with Dean send it off! I have tried this and the mess, frustration and poor results send us to the tannery. We use a lot of elk and buckskin for projects of art quality and you just can't get it to the standards unless you are a professional and set up for it.
