hauling

Post by JWhoundhauler »

this is not a classified ad,just a little confused on how not to go broke hauling and do the best job possible. I think that when i here of these horror stories of big trailers hauling 20 and 30 dogs at a time, your hound arives starving, sick, and under nurished 6 weeks later becouse of to many hounds to care for at one time.is there room for a premium hauling service that??? ive hauled several hounds now, 4 to 5 at a time and drive an average of 8,000 miles just last week have no luxery, sleep in my van with hounds and can bearly break even with 6 hounds through out the trip that lasted 7 days it seems that biding on a pup can be tricky, how much, 400$ to go over 1000 miles is to much for some,so what is fair for all sides. i understand becouse i live here too and dont have very much money. im asking for your advice so i can be the best hound hauler for the years to come and not go broke, i have the ability to be the best at what you ask of me as i work for you. your experience matters to me. so the question is how much is the right amount to haul hounds??? Thanks to you all :D

IDK but I can tell you that I had 6wk old pups hauled from MT to WV for $300, arrived on time and in good condition........ flew a pup from WV to MT this last summer for $275. A guy should be able to ship anywhere in the lower 48 and possibly Canada for $250-$350 easily.

The last pup I bought was 1100 miles one way. Because of the time of year the dog could not be brought by plane. Fuel would have cost me right around $600. I ended up pitching in on someone elses fuel, and got the dog to within a couple hours of my house for around $250, If I remember right. If you ask me it should cost fuel plus a couple hundred bucks, depending on how far you have to go. Some guys brag about 30 miles to the gallon, I don't own anything close to that. I think a fair average on fuel for a rig that can carry multiple dogs is 16 to 18 MPG. I would have paid $750 or so. That is probably more than most would pay, fuel isn't cheap.

Flying dogs is cheaper though.
