2012 South Texas Cat Hunters Gathering

Post by Dads dogboy »

Well Folks,

Once again it is time to thank Mr. Robbie Hurt (South Texan) for hosting a very enjoyable gathering of the Best of the Best of the South Texas Bobcat hunters and Hounds.

Friday night the 2nd of March (Texas Independence Day) 18 Cat Hunters and 17 Hounds ended the Rabbit and Deer killing careers of three Bobcats. Great Hound work was viewed up close and personal in all three races. The 1st treed 3 times before dark.

Saturday morning everyone went in to Dilley, TX for a Great Bar-b-Q lunch hosted each year by the Dubose Family.

Many old memories were revisited and Long Gone Hounds got Better!

Thursday, Big n Blue met Dad and I in Woodsboro, TX and we made a hunt with SoTxcathunter and his Hounds. They and he showed us a good time as we caught 1 and treed 2 (they were left to run another day) in 5 hours of Hunting. Mike showed ole Big n Blue how Rig dogs can get-r-done in S. TX.

Big n Blue was with us in Dilley as well, Folks he claims to be in his early 60s, if so he sure did not show it as he was one of the 1st to the Trees and Catches. His arms looked like that he had personaly captured these Cats. Thought we would need to get him a Blood Transfusion!

I will have a full length story with Pics and video later this week!

I did not know you and Pop were in the country. I was at Dilley and Cotulla shooting a little video for CARNIVORE. I drove down Tues. night and met Phil Lyne about daylight. Shorty and London were already at Dilley hunting with Robbie so I missed them. I had planned to stay over and attend the gathering on Sat. but no one was in Menard to take care of the potlickers so drove back home after checking on my folks.
I did catch up on all the latest after Phil and I made a circle as Amanda and I had a good visit.
I will try to make it down next year, Good Lord willing. Tell Big Blue and Mike "Hey" for me.
Adios,
Gary

Gary, you sure missed some good races. Mike's dogs did an outatanding job thursday night as they caught 1 and treed 2. Friday night the gentlemen that brought dogs brought some good ones as they treed 3 before 9 o'clock. My pockets are still full!! LOL

Wish to thank everyone that I met for an outstanding time! Great company to be in!!
Sure wish Shorty had been there!

David I sure wish I were there also. This dang gob thing just isn't suited for me, lol! I just missed everyone by a little bit it sounds like. I was pulling out of town just as everyone was loading up for the hunt on Friday night. Those mens dogs sure have been doing a good job down in that country. This is the busiest year I've had at work in a long time. I've been missing a lot of good cat hunting. One of these days I'm going to make the event though.

Gary, wish I'd have known ahead of time that you were coming down. We may have done things a little different so we could have gotten together. We had fun without you though catching two cats. Next time your headed down let me know. I'd love to make a circle with y'all.

I would like to hook up and meet some of you guys as well. I am new on the website and hunt cats around Hondo and up into the hill country and west Texas. I have about 35 ranches that I have the ability to hunt and train dogs on in the area. Most of them are exotic ranches that are willing to let me hunt cats, especially this time of year when the animals are droping their babies. I am just getting back into a full pack of hounds, I started hound hunting in the Davis Mtns in west Texas back in the mid 90's and hunted bears in NM and Cats in Colorado. I trained pups out in west Texas for guys in
Co and NM, then got caught up in the rut and thought I fell in love with a Blonde hair blued eyed devil, sold my pack and stopped guiding hunts full time and moved to central Texas.....that lasted a short time. So now I said to hell with it, I am gonna start hound hunting again. I have a good young dog who has caught several bobcats this year and just got two six month old pups outta an old friend in Utah that I am starting now. I am headed up to Colorado next month to see some hounds that the guy that got me hooked into hounds back in the 90's, may bring one of those back down with me if I can convince him to let one go. I also would be interested in some hounds that are used to hunting in this country here to throw in the mix.
Hope to meet some of you,

Thanks,
Kevin
Get the kids out there with you as often as you can, this day and age they can be so influenced by social media it is scary.
