Tom with a Tracking Collar

Post by dry ground »

My wife and I caught this lion on President's day. We let the pot-lickers out at 8:00 a.m. they went approx. 2 mile's before they came to a recreation area. The lion crossed a boat ramp and ran across a frozen lake with a pack of hound's in hot pursuit. There was a lot of commotion out of the ice-fisherman when the lion and a pack of hound's ran thru the middle of them. The tom crossed the paved road and pulled the steep rocky incline to the top of the mountain. By the time we got to the top the lion bailed out and ran half-way back down to the bottom, where they had him bayed up on a large rocky out-cropping. I tried to ease up to get some photo's and as soon as we locked eye's he jumped off the ledge. The lion went straight down the wash and treed up above the paved road in an old cedar. My wife has been on alot of lion hunt's with me and my client's and after all the S#!T he put us thru she decided to fill her lion tag.

Did you guys return the collar and get info on the lion? I'm always curious to hear the story of these lions collared and caught. Some of those boogers move a long ways. Good job.

Yes dirty dan,we did return the collar and get the story on the LION but not the reward. The funny thing is right after my wife decked the tom we heard a guy yelling congratulations .When i looked around to see who in the hell was up here with us ,there he stood filming the end of the hunt..the biolgist. My wife apologized for ending his project, it was a crazy day. The biolgist told us the lion had made a large circle and was heading back to where they had collared him a year before. He was only about 15-20- miles short, which is 1-2 day's. The loop that he took was approx; 90-100 + air mile's. I have found it very interesting as well to see a lion's movement. If you want more detail's P.M. me , I don't want to post too much detail about my country. Scott Summers

Great story Scott and i too loved the part about the lion running across the ice with hounds in hot pursuit.

Several years ago my son and I were trailing a big tom and the dogs got way up ahead of us as were were having a hard time picking a way thru the rocks on our horses. Well they jumped the tom out of a boulder pile and he blasted off a hill and there was a pipeline crew laying a new pipeline and they had open ditches and were working with welders and track hoes. Well we headed in the direction the dogs went and we came up on this crew and they were all waving their arms and yelling so we rode over there and unfortunatly neither of us spke much Spanish because due to the excitment that is all these guys were speaking but we got the jist of it. That big lion had come right down thru them and jumped the open ditch and hounds were hot on it's heels and all we got was LEON! LEON! Grande el Gato! Peros barking and barking! LOL! we went ahead and caught up with the dogs and the tom bayed in the bluffs and got him killed. On the way back out we hauled him over by those guys and they were exciteed all over again. I don't think they got much pipe layed that day! LOL!
