Didnt get the hall pass this weekend from the wife, so i figured i would post a few pictures and my best stories of lion hunting this winter.
This first cat was a Pretty crazy experience. Actually met some pretty nice tree huggers that day. This day started horrible cut a cat track and a hurd of 100 elk ran over the track and we couldnt line it out, so we kept looking and our tracks we have on our four wheeler broke, luckily we were able to jimmy rig it to get it out. Loaded it up and to head home and on the way down the main road i see a track in the snow that looks like a cat track walking down a guys drive way, so we turned around and sure enough it was a lion track. So i went and asked the guy permission and he gave me the go ahead, we started that cat on that guys driveway and the cat was jumped within a couple hundred yards of his house crossed a huge river and treed 500 yards above the house were we started the track. Our bad luck wasnt over yet, there was a road that took us closer to the tree so we headed down it and the four wheel drive in our truck went out and we got stuck while trying to turn around, so we had to have a lady who was driving by pull us out. Finally we got to the tree and ended up being an easy tree to get to. Crazy day

My two dogs on the tree, my old dog always finds a small tree to stand on when he trees its pretty funny.

This was a good story as well, We were freecasting the dogs off horses up a canyon when my young dog took off by itself. We didnt have collars on him because our gps was broken at the time. We had no idea what he was doing, non of the other more experienced dogs took off so you know exactly what i was thinking he was chasing something he wasnt suppose to. So we left him and kept hunting up this canyon where we cut another cat track and all the other dogs took it over this mountain and treed it. In the mean time we can hear my young dog treeing accrossed the canyon. We didnt have collars on him, but he was treeing good. So we headed over and found this nice tom in the tree. The other dogs treed a female that liked to jump in the next canyon. Longest day to date, didnt get home tell 1 am on this trip. Needless to say lost a few hall passes on this day. Lol

This was our second double lion day in less than a week. We turned out on a small female track and ended up treeing this tom. It jumped on us and the dogs took off all the way up and over the top of this mountain. We were thinking there was no way that cat could run that far with my two dogs on his butt. They headed up and over this big mountian me and my brother were wondering what the heck happened. We walked down toward where they headed and i found another lion track so i started following it when i realized there was a lion up in this tree. This other lion track i found just by chance walked by the tree the original lion ran up and my dogs hit it ran it over the top of this mountain and treed it. Days like these is what keeps me going you never know what is going to happen while hunting.
This is the first lion in a tree with no dogs under it.

This next cat we cut the track about 400 yards from the truck, I wasnt sure if it was even a cat track there was so much snow in it. So i drove by it and kept cutting. Well after not finding anything we headed back to the truck. I decided to let my dogs out on the track i seen first thing in the morning sense i couldnt tell what it was and i trust my dogs. Didnt even put collars on the dogs as soon as they put there noses in the track they took it like it was a hour old track and didnt see them tell the tree luckily it was a short race and they had the cat treed in less than ten minutes and only 100 yards off the road. Easiest tree to date.

This is a picture of what the track looked like. There was also fresh deer tracks on it where i started it, which made it even harder for me to figure out what it was.
