Here are a few pics of the pup I got from Nora Cook and Cobalt's Rambo / Uchtman / Cameron cross born Nov 2011.

She is a day shy of 21 weeks old, and this is her first time tracking a drag. She has not been shown any game yet, just this drag. My bud and I made the lion-hide drag quite challenging, 1km long, up and over many blowdowns, through cedar groves, under brush, across gravel road x 2, along fallen trees up off the ground, and through a little creek to a tree. Both pups nailed it. In a month or so, I will show her a coon.

My bluetick pup is wearing the pink collars, and my buds 6 month old btn x redbone is beside her.

If there are others on here with a pup from this cross, I'd sure like to hear from you on your pups progress. I do like what I see in mine .

great acting pup. Follows his nose every where. Very friendly.

I see some Rock in that pup.If she turns out anything like her daddy she will be a dandy.I had the opportunity to spend some days in the woods chasing bears with Rock and I sure enjoyed watching him do his thing.If I was to use one word to describe Rock it would be RELENTLESS.The dog had no quit in him that I ever saw.

I got a male from this cross, he has a great disposition, little vocal when he is pissed. Has been working a coon since he was about 10 weeks or so. I've been working with riding the rig and hood lately with him. I did a mike leonard drag the other day, he worked it with the older pup but never opened until my older pup was treeing. My belief is he will turn out to be top notch by the signs I've seen. When I first got him I started right away with hiding bobcat feet in our lawn for him to find. I don't have any recent pictures of him but ill post a few older ones.

tk, my pup, Emma, sounds like a *demon-possesed* when she gets wrestling with my older male, lol.

Always inquisitive, always up to a new adventure be it running through a swamp, splashing through creeks, Emma gets busy investigating anything that appears new, or out of place from the last time she saw it, or since she was last there. She's seems pretty smart, and has a good memory for finding the very same stick, scrap of litter, or some other bit that has caught her fancy, even if days have passed since we were there last. She is pretty independant on the trail when hiking, and has no qualms about ranging out 100m ahead on her own. She is not at all shy, and saunters up to any dog or person to greet them.

I'll be showing her a caged coon in time here, but am in no rush. I subscribe to Wick's theory on not starting a pup hunting too young. In the meantime, she gets to be a puppy, exploring watching, listening and learning through her puppy eyes and nose.

Now you know that a bluetick can't go over 5 mph, but they sure got power to knock you over! Spoke I haven't started my pup per say as just small things to see what he's capable. Right now is the best time to imprint handling with them, coherent and no habits set in yet. Only problem I have now is getting him to quit whining if im messing with another dog.

Just got a text today from a guy who got a male. His pup has made 3 races from truck to tree. 1 lion and 2 bobcat. Maybe they were easy races, but still... I think he's starting to like him.

Good to hear, as we all know that the abilities / fault cross section of the whole litter is a better indicator of the inherited genetic traits than that of a single pup.

Did more training with the pup yesterday and again today.

Yesterday, I set up the Flambeau Deer Decoy, and attached two deer scent glands to an electric fence charger. Pup was let loose to investigate.......... at first, she approached the decoy, studied it hard, and then spooked and ran back 30 ft from it, barking and woofing at it. Much circling, getting down wind, booger-barking, and never getting the nerve up to get really close. I guess the decoy's size was pretty intimidating to her puppy eyes, so after 20 minutes of booger-barking, I put her away and removed it.
Next, I hung the scent glands from a tree branch about 12" off the ground, then let her back out to investigate.
She approached the area with caution, looking for the decoy. Not seeing it, her courage swelled, and she moved in down wind and closer to the glands. Two steps later, her nose found the juice, and with a yelp, she was outta there. For the next 15 minutes, and the rest of the day, she never got close to the gland again, but glanced at it with suspicion regularly.


Today, she tracked and saw a caged coon. Short drag through the frosty grass and up a tree 8 ft.
Was an easy drag for her, and she trailed it easily, although cautiously. Once at the tree, the scent was heavy but with the trail having dissapeared, she was confused. She didn't know to look up. She milled around, checked, sniffed and looked. Once I lowered the cage from the tree to just 3 ft off the ground, she saw it, and made the connection. The coon moved, and she barked, woofed, circled down wind, and bawled a little. She was cautious, running back 20 feet when the coon growled or moved in the cage. For 10 minutes with the cage hoisted back up to height, I let her investigate and bark giving her encouragement. Now she was looking up. She definitely had enthusiasm for the coon, but was not, surprisingly, pverly courageous. Being just 22 weeks old, she still has a healthy dose of puppy caution / self-preservation present.

My goal with the coon was to guage her reaction to a live coon up close, and show me positive interest she did. With the deer breaking, she received a very valuable lesson here too. For now, its back to being a puppy with more growing / exploring in order. In time, I will show her the wired deer decoy again and another coon, so she can continue to learn what is fun and what stings.

I have a female from that litter and she is a natural on cats. She is super tiny 5 months old now and still looks like a tiny pup, anyways at 4 months old she was striking cats from the back of a truck just her by her self tracks were in the snow so yep cat. Anyways had her on coon drags when she was 3months and man can she fly these werent your open field drags some of them were alittle on the tuff side. She has been an amazing little pup seen her first coon at 4 months didnt want to do it so young but this pup is a brave one she has been going around jumping on all the house cats and have been getting the crap swatted out of her and she loved it just kept on going. Well on coon she was trying to eat the dang thing threw the cage. She has been good on all her drags with no corrections will tree for hours on squirrels. Cant wait for her to get alittle bigger so she can start making the races.. Hope everyone is happy with there pups as I am mine

About her being a natural on cats she has the brains the dog is to smart she is quik and she has one hell of a nose I put her down on two tracks one was 2 days old just seeing if she could smell it anyways we ended up picking her up aways away and she was still pushing it. The other track was about 10-12 hours old and she stroke it and ran the ass off of it for a few hundred yards i stopped her cause she is a little turd and she would have went all day. So thats her cat expierence and from what I have seen she has the natural ability and has the will to doit.

I got the last male she sold about a month ago from this litter. He is turnin out pretty good. Not the most graceful of dogs but he's doin good none the less.

merlo, have you weighed your female? mine isn't large either........maybe 40 lbs or so, haven't weighed her though. I would be happy if she stayed under 55 lbs, as I like a smaller / agile hound.

Took emma [ pup ] on a 10km hike today. She is responding well to the tritronics beep, and comes back a-runnin when I tone her. This is a must command for my hounds to obey. She also scented her first lion scrape today. Much interest, sniffing it thoroughly. She is also a twig and leaf sniffer, as well as ground scent.

Now, with a belly full of grub, she's asleep near the woodstove, lol.
