Pete,

You couldn't be more wrong. Demanding that Richards resign because of SB 1221 is like demanding that a girl be arrested for being raped. You are a very passionate individual, but I think your emotions got the best of you on this issue. Let's focus our attention and efforts on the bad guys, and not cannibalize one of our own, shall we.

Hello All,

To everybody that has tried to join CHC via our website, I apologize for the difficulties. Our webmaster fixed the glitch, and I have confirmed that it is working. We've had several people join and/or make donations online and via mail, including hunters from other states. Not that I want to start a good ol' fashioned competition (actually, I confess...I do), but we have had donations and memberships from:
1. Idaho (neck and neck for 2nd)
2. Michigan
3. Nevada (close behind in 2nd)
4. New Hampshire
5. Oregon (not far behind in 3rd)
6. Utah (currently in 1st)
7. West Virginia
8. Wisconsin

I would love to be able to list all 50 states, but that will be up to you...unless you are okay with your neighboring states showing you up!

In all seriousness, us California houndsmen and women are truly and deeply touched by the support, assistance, and encouragement we have received from our hound hunting brethren and fellow Americans since SB 1221. Thank you all so very much.

Josh

I'll back off if I see him April 24 at the Capitol. I'll be there and I will apologize to him in person. This bill was probably coming our way but his actions put us at a distinct disadvantage and he has little or no power or influence in his position now. It must suck to be him.

i dont see how his action in any way had a dam thing to do with this bs bill. i think he should be comended on takeing a fine legal trophy.nothing like biteing the hand that feeds you. how many allies can the sportsman of ca afford to loose? NONE.I think every houndsman in the state should be up in arms defending him and his legal pursuit of happyness. he did nothing wrong

Wayne Pacelle, president of the HSUS, quoted in his March 21, 2012 blog:

"We can thank Dan Richards, in all of his arrogance and bluster, for bringing
focus to the problems associated with hound hunting, and reminding wildlife
adovocates in his home state to seek additional reforms there."

Pete,

You need to understand that Pacelle is a very clever marketer and propagandist...his word choice, phrasing, logical fallacies, etc are all very calculated in order to convince the unknowing public to buy what he is selling. Tactically, Pacelle tries to play both ends against the middle; on the one hand he takes every opportunity to disparage all hunting and oppose hunting opportunity with every single piece of legislation (bear, dove, right-to-hunt, etc) while on the other hand making a feigned attempt at compromise by claiming that "reasonable," "sporting," or "responsible" hunters oppose methods of hunting he just so happens to be targeting first.

It's unfortunate that hunters such as former Commissioner Judd Hanna can be duped into thinking that there agenda does not include the outright elimination of all types of hunting and all forms of animal use. I wish it were otherwise. Imagine for a moment...hunting and conservation groups partnered with HSUS in a unified effort to go after poachers or those who are truly and legitimately cruel to animals. I know I am dreaming, but it's nice to fantasize about it every now and then instead of always having to educate the politicians and the public about HSUS' ignorance and outright lies about something so pure, natural, challenging, and humane as hound hunting.

The bottom line is that Dan Richards did not cause anything. HSUS is being their typical opportunistic selves by calling attention to a form of hunting that they have targeted first. They are simply attempting to get more mileage from the nonsensical outrage over President Richards' legal lion hunt in order to achieve their ultimate goal.

You shouldn't focus so much on the words that Pacelle writes as much as you should read between the lines of what he writes.

Yeah Rifleman, as usual you are the voice of reason. I am just getting very worked up about this. The language of the bill is very disturbing and I don't want to move and don't want to go to jail. I can't make the April 7 CHC dinner but I will make the April 24 Senate committee meeting. PM me after the dinner and let me know how it went and what's up. Or give me a call at home. -Pete

Hi Pete,

Yeah Rifleman, as usual you are the voice of reason. I am just getting very worked up about this. The language of the bill is very disturbing and I don't want to move and don't want to go to jail.

I understand...sometimes emotion gets the best of us. But that's the tactic of the anti's. We've got facts and logic on our side.

PM me after the dinner and let me know how it went and what's up. Or give me a call at home.

The dinner was outstanding. We had over 600 people attend and could barely keep up with all of the donations and new memberships that came flooding in. We had a reporter from the Bay Area show up unannounced, and had to deal with that for the better part of the night, but the event went well for all intents and purposes.

Peter Meyer wrote:California Fish and Game Commission President Dan Richards needs to do the honorable thing, it is time for him to fall on his sword. S.B. 1221 is a direct result of his actions and could ultimately lead to the banning of hunting with hounds in California. It is probably to late to appease the antis with his resignation but it probably wouldn't hurt our cause. California's houndsmen are being dropped behind enemy lines in the battle with the HSUS and all the other antis. Richards is a liability and needs to go. If he won't go now after the introduction of the bill then he needs to be removed! They will keep me and my black and tans out of the woods when they pry the leashes from my cold, dead hands. -Pete

I couldn't disagree with U more Pete. Dan Richards did nothing wrong or illegal, this is a common tactic used by these animal rights groups to divide the masses. We need to stick together on this one.
