Weight Issue

Post by DeVuono311 »

So guys, need some input here. Running low on funds to keep taking these girls to the vet. My dogs contracted whips end of last year, took them to the vet had them three day treatment, cleaned up all feces after them since then in the yard. I still cant seem to get these girls to regain their weight. I'm lost and concerned as to what I can do to fix the issue. Looking for ideas and experiences from you guys here so maybe we can get it taken care of. Thanks ahead of time for any input!

Also, is there a preventative for whips? Their eggs can last quite awhile in the yard. So I want to give them an preventative.

I use heart guard for heart worms. I've contemplated using ivomect or ivermect but was tools it could kill my dogs if I wasn't careful. What's your thoughts?

use the ivomectin and feed em raw chicken leg quarterts for a little whil just one leg quarter a day bone and all you will be surprised at the weight gain assuming the worms and all worms are gone ... and its not as expensive as you would think . I know people that feed strictly leg quarters . you could also try feeding beef parts from the butcher hearts liver and trimmings its not that much more expensive and it does not take as much at feeding time .I have hog dogs and when one gets sick or cut down real b ad the raw beef or chicken really helps put the weight back on them . I also have used red cell vitamin in the squirt bottle they may turn their nose at it the first day or so but after that you wont have a problem but be sure you buy the K-9 and not the equine

heartgaurd is an ivomectin based preventative . i've been using ivomect for years no problems [ long as we ain't talkin collies or shelties ] but hounds is fine 1/10 th a cc for every ten lbs body weight . i give it once a month it usually will take care of every thing but tapes . i've wormed pregnant gyps and puppies both with no ill effects . any fenbendazole product is also a good wormer for just about all worms . you just need to get on a regiment and stick with it .

I use Ivo-mec 1/10 CC per 10 lb. body weight as well. Be very sure your dog is heartworm free before you start it because if already has heartworm the Ivo-mec will kill them but when they die they can clog heart arteries and the blockage can cause death. But if they are clean this will keep the Micro Filaria stage of heartworm from developing and keep them healthy.

I would have those dogs checked for Tape worm they can really drag them down.
